And the conclusion is that ultimately all you need is an anchor point to hold your weight, a strong enough rope or ligature to hang from and to hold rope while you're hanging until you pass out.

Other than that there's not a lot else to get right, I would say the knots but ive seen people do it by just wrapping a bedsheet around their necks. Such a simple method that has been around for centuries

Isn't hanging a really slow and painful method?

if you blackout before you drop or break your neck, no. if you do it poorly it can be a struggle.

It seems fairly quick to blackout in any video I've seen.
The body can contort for a while but they don't seem to be conscious
It always seems fairly peaceful. But it still seems frightening

I mean you need to be able to find the sweet spot to pass out quickly so it's less painful, if not you feel pain while choking which makes it hard to wait out the pain

If you failed to cut oxygen supplies, it may Look slow and painful but if done right, for the person hanging they'll black out and their brain will kind of shut down after 10 seconds-ish and don't really feel anything afterwards. Twitches and spasm are your brain stem trying to fire the last possible survival instinct to muscle.
Personally I don't really adore this method

I think it's a matter of experience, a bit like pulling out a tooth seen from two people who do it differently. As children, if you yank it out decisively, it's over in a moment and the pain stops right away. But if you keep wiggling it back and forth, trying to make it feel more 'peaceful' for your mind, you only prolong the pain, and the experience becomes completely different. It's the same action, but lived in opposite ways.

I thought it was similar so I tried fsh and only got pain and a choking/gagging feeling. Hoping I can figure it out for partial if I go in quick but full didn't work for me that way :/

How did you "try" fsh?

I did it but after what felt like 5-7 seconds of just neck pain and starting to choke and gag with no feeling of passing out in sight I got out of it. I was fully hanging for a few seconds though, might have been the wrong placement or something as it was just painful

How'd you get out? Did you kick a stool or just step off of it?

Gotcha, understandable.
Yeah, hopefully partial works without pain because idk how one can do full wrong. Knot in the back, tight before I stepped off, knots where right and high on the neck but I just felt like I was going to throw up

I think you have to know where your carotid is for it to be easiest but that can be hard to find.

I don't know, man, I watch a whole bunch of them and even those that were described as "peaceful" and "perfect" are incredibly unnerving and haunting for me. I still remember some of them in great detail, terrifying...

Must be aware that some twitchings and tremblings are a natural response as a panic mode from the body dying, but not necessarily means that the hanged person are feeling that consciously, because if the carotid artery are ocluded, the person is unconscious after 10-30 seconds.
It's haunting, sure, and it could got wrong. But if you are not found or cut down after 10-30 minutes, you could be enough dead. So it's kind a random event to pass away in the 10 second timeframe, or suffer a longer more, however, I don't think a hanged person is conscious after 1 minute on the air.
