I think it's too thin. It'll dig into your neck and be uncomfortable. 1/4 inch would mean a 6mm diameter, you should opt for a 10-12mm diameter.

1/4 inch is very thin. 1/2 inch is best.

also, this is a polypropylene rope, which can have issues with some knots (have no clue if any of the knots relevant to hanging apply, but it's worth considering). i'd recommend polyester. least amount of stretch, and it's one of the strongest synthetic materials for rope.
