I was going to attempt to ctb using SN on Saturday night, I unsealed the jar a couple of times and made a couple SN drinks, but I couldn't go through with it for reasons beyond my control. Is it still OK to use this SN to ctb even though I opened the bottle a few times and exposed it to air?? Thanks

Oxidation takes time and air, the more of either being detrimental; it's a matter of both now. Even sealed, unless absolutely air tight, it'd slowly degrade - so it depends when a second use will be. Do a blood test if you're worried when the time comes.

How much do you have? It's probably fine.

I bought a 2 pound bottle. It's all still left. I just opened it a few times on Saturday.

If no more, better than nothing? Scary dose too low. But 25g overkill. Read 6g ok. But if puke 25g absorbed 6g after 15 min so still fatal? Not sure. Brain broken...

Can we take sn if we ate? I get urges after eating & drinking less than 8h and... 2h?

I honestly don't think there's anything to worry about. This question has been asked a lot of times and it's difficult to give a precise answer.

When googling the shelf life of SN I found they give it 3-5 years if sealed and stored properly.

Another site said it oxidizes 'very slowly' into nitrate when exposed to air. (See 3.2.9)

On an old science forum thread people say that storing SN for decades is not a problem. And that deterioration is negligable.

There's also lots of threads on this forum without any definitive answers.

People use this stuff to cure meat. So it needs to be opened and sealed repeatedly. It's not like it instantaneously converts to sodium nitrate. What would be the use of selling sodium nitrite if that was the case?

Keep it sealed up the best way you can. And test it using the blood test or aquarium test kit when you're ready to use it just to be sure.

And keep to the recommended regime. I feel Stan's guide is well thought through and has been tried and tested.

If any of the links are not allowed, just let me know and I'll remove them.

I opened mine 4 or 5 times for a few seconds each so I'm concerned now. Some people on here give it a few months when opened before becmong nitrate but The seller I bought it from said it should keep for at least a year after opening. I asked on a chemistry forum and a reputable chemist told me it should be fine. Any thoughts?
