I don't know... If you can find the right meds, you'll be okay. The right meds are key to a good recovery, but you're probably going to have to take them for life, which is not that bad either as long as you take them. You don't have to commit suicide because you have mental illness. just have patients you'll find the right meds

No I don't think so but the treatments of it are so hit and miss and wrong that that can be the death sentence

Having a mental illness isn't easyy and its even harder when people assume you can just "get over it". Its soo much complicated that's whyy it's a 'death sentence' to some.

I'd say that it depends on the condition. I'm bipolar and 20 % of us, one out of five, commit suicide. You literally can't get worse odds than that. However, four out of five don't commit suicide. So, I think that it's more of a sword of Damocles than a death sentence. The threat of death is always there, but death is not certain.

In modern times it is yea. The governments around the world have made mental health a low low priority because they want most of us to die off prematurely. Emotional unhealth is especially deadly not necessarily that u are mentally ill. Most people are just emotionally unwell and they will label it as mental illness in the medical community. When it's really that u were maltreated in your early years and developed ineffective coping strategies for adulthood.

Bless you brother. I feel your pain to my absolute core. I'm afraid I have nothing useful to say other than I know how you feel. I'm so sorry for your pain my friend I hope you can find peace and light.

As I mentioned in this thread I think if you turned suicidal when you entered puberty through the hormonal changes then it is a death sentence/terminal illness and you will never recover, for adult depression and suicidal thoughts aren´t necerssarily a death sentence their problems are usually brought on my external forces like losing a job or a partner in a relationship where we who got depression and suicidal thoughts when we entered puberty was brought on my internal forced which is way harder to fix dare I say impossible.

Yes!!! I agree!! I'm also emotionally ill as well as mentally ill. I had emotional neglect as a child. I was bullied at school and my parents didn't care or give me any support. I had to deal with it all on my own.

It feels like that for me. I've tried a lot to get better but mental illness combined with early life trauma has left me with very little choice. Nothing works.

Strictly speaking mental illness is only a death sentence if it causes you to ctb like Sensei has said or if it kills you indirectly like anorexia can. It can make your quality of life really bad which is sort of like a death sentence.

Treatment might be effective, leading to easing of symptoms or complete remission, and its possible this may continue after treatment stops. But sometimes treatment has no effect. Adhering to taking meds can be a problem sometimes.

So in short, it depends but usually no.

Not necessarily. Depends what it is and how you are equipped to deal with it. BPD and bipolar are particularly crushing and schizophrenia and psychoses can be dangerous for sure. Depression wears you down and anxiety is like living in a battlezone.
Some have great support networks, some take the medication and it helps, some manage to come to terms with their nature. But some drink and take drugs and descend into darkness. Some end up here.
I've even heard of those who have found some positives in MH issues. I've found BPD people for example to be highly creative, intelligent, individual and compassionate. These are the sort of people who often pursue creative professions like artists, writers, actors and musicians. That doesn't mean the dark half isn't still there, but there are individuals with serious MH issues that manage to flourish.

totally agree with this!
I previously had a diagnosis of BPD, the only reason they took it away was because the label was pointless (Lack of support available) and stigmatising among professionals in my area. So currently my diagnosis is depression, despite all the trauma I've had. However, I work in a role which requires compassion which I find just completely natural to me and I've had great (And I mean great) feedback from people regarding my ability to listen, just "be there" for them, and advocate for them to ensure they are getting the best treatment that serves them, not treatment that serves the professionals. If I hadn't been through what I have, I can honestly say I wouldn't have developed empathy and compassion like I do now. So as much as mental illness can be absolutely debilitating, there are positives in it whether you feel like it or not. The difficulty is, getting to a point where it's not so debilitating that you can find those positives.
This is my experience anyway, and perspectives Vary. For instance, in certain cultures, if you are overly sensitive or experience what we call psychosis, you would actually basically be worshipped and be treated as a shaman. I watched a ted talk about that recently which I loved:hug:

"Right meds"? If you are referring to psychiatric drugs, I disagree. How can they be considered right with so many side effects behind?

Weight gain or loss, mental confusion, addiction, decreased pleasures, constipation, slowness in thinking… and many others.

These are very unpleasant and often unbearable side effects. This ends up causing many patients to stop treatment, and making most of them go on an endless cycle, such as: Start with a new medication, stop and start again, again, again.
