It's up to you whether to leave a note, nobody is owed an explanation as suicide doesn't need to be justified, it depends on whether the individual has something they wish to say.

I think a note is important, if nothing else to prove to whoever finds you after that your actions were intentional. As the authorities will no doubt be called it proves as much as possible that there was no foul play.
