As the title says, one of my cats is really sick. He's coughing, listless, staying close and all in all isn't acting himself.

If something happens to him and my other cat, it's safe to say I will not be waiting to ctb as they are the only very important living things currently in my life that make it at least bearable. They are not very old, 2 and 3. The 2 year old, Bindi; seems to be doing fine and she's not coughing or anything but the 3 year old; Anubis is not himself, gasping for air and seemingly very uncomfortable. I am hoping it's just a flu but if I lose them, it's game over right away..

Sorry for this stupid, meaningless rant..

Please keep them in your thoughts..

It's definitely not stupid! Our fur babies become a part of us and they become family. When my dog I had for 16 years passed away not too long ago it destroyed me. I literally stopped eating. She was the light of my life and one of the few reasons I smiled and have kept living this long. I have another dog and im just debating if I can wait and not ctb for him. I truly understand how important pets are and I wish society could see this. They are better than therapy and give us the love and comfort we need when we have no one else to turn to or when we feel our lowest. Sometimes I feel like no one around me gets it because they keep saying "it was just a dog...get over it" and I cannot. She was so special to me because she saw me thru my hardest times in life.

I hope your cat feels better and recovers soon! ❤

Yes, I tried to end my life shortly after my late cat passed as well. He was only 6 and died from cancer. I still think about him and cry about him. They are not "just" dogs or cats or even fish. They are family.

Thank you for your kind words and may your pup rest easy.

It's not stupid at all. My dog died in May and it was like I lost a child. They give us unconditional love. He was my baby!
I'm sorry your baby is sick. :(

Absolutely. We had 4 dogs, one which lived to 19! It was crushing to lose them.

Absolutely not stupid at all. Fur babies are family no matter what. Having 2 dogs of my own that my family eventually had to put down was one of the hardest things i've ever had to go through. I do hope your cat gets better.

Thank you all so much for your replies. I am holding on by a thread. He is a frail cat and being sick is really bad for him. I don't know what to do.

It's in no way stupid, pets become a part of your life and support system whether we realize it or not, they are family. To lose a person/pet you care deeply about and that has been there for you is absolutely heart breaking. It's a shame that something like this is happening to Anubis and at his age. Are there any animal hospitals near by that could see him and try to figure out what's going on? They'll both be in my thoughts until I go. Sending positive energy and hope he gets better soon!

I would be but it's midnight and just a consult is $80 I won't have until the end of the month.

I also don't live in a high traffic area with much for 24 hour businesses.

Ask them to bill you. Please don't just give up on getting them care like that. They need to go to the vet based on what you have said. If there isn't an all night emergency one show up first thing and explain. I cannot believe they would turn you away because you cannot pay up front.

Thank you. There is a vet, but just a consult is $80 I don't have currently. I get paid the end of each month and my mother thinks I'm being ridiculous for wanting to take him to the vet.

What I had thought is to ask for a payment plan essentially..

Yes, we only have two and I believe they will turn you away if you cannot pay, but will be checking regardless.

I'm sorry to hear about the financial issues holding you back, if I could help you I would jump at the chance but I don't even have $20 dollars to my name. I hope they can set up a payment plan so you can get Anubis in there, or that your mom realizes that you wanting to care for a pet is not ridiculous.

I'm sorry that Anubis is not doing well at the moment. I will be sure to keep him in my thoughts and wish him a speedy recovery. If you have the means, please consider taking him to see a veterinarian.

I am going to echo the others here and say that your attachment to your beloved cats is not ridiculous at all. For many of us, our pets are as dear to us as flesh and blood family. My cat and I are very close. I am so attached in fact, that I waking up in tears if I have nightmares about her. To be honest, I would have taken that bus much sooner had she not come into my life.

I hope that you will reconsider feeling ashamed for loving your cats as much as you do. There are so many out there without loving families and your cats are certainly lucky to have you.

Here is hoping that everything turns out for the best. Get well soon Anubis! I'm cheering for all of you.

I feel the same way about my parents, if they were gone or just didn´t care, I would be dead already

I'm fighting with my mother over this now. Makes me want to ctb more... And she turned it into a fight about me moving out. She wonders why I want to die..

When I heard that my dog was euthanized I was numb for a while. When that cat who would sleep on the pillow next to my head died I was in a bad spot. Recently, I realized that the calico I had is dead. She became an outside cat. That hurt for a bit. I know someone who self-harmed when their dog died even though the dog was given to relatives.

It makes sense.

Chances are that it's a cold or something similar. There was to be kitty first aid on the internet.

Wait, fighting over what?

Taking the cat to be seen. She thinks I'm overreacting and treating me like complete shit over all of this. Like she doesn't care, then turned it into me wanting to move out and how I don't need her. I'm almost 23.

I'm so sorry that your little kitty is ill, i know how hard it is to see them suffer and feeling powerless about it.

and i'ts not a stupid reason at all, as you said before they are very smart and loving little creatures, getting attached to them is only natural and the fact that you feel this way shows how much you care about them.

don't say that your feelings are stupid or meaningless, if those feelings make you suffer then they are completely valid and we are here to listen to them and relate to your struggle.

be strong, cats are also very resilient and they recover from many terrible things, i really hope that they get to be healty again so you can care and love them the way you've been doing  i deeply respect people like you who care this much for their pets and animals in general.

Hope it gets better soon. Animals are much more resilient to diseases than us over clean humans, I am sure it will recover with a bit of love and attention from you. Make sure you keep it hydrated.

Me being advanced in years i have had lots of pets over the decades and each one that dies takes a piece of my heart with them and i never stop thinking about each and every one of them .If anything happens to my Baby Agnes it would be the end for me , it's the only thing i worry about when contemplating CTB is her , even though she will go to a good home , me ex/gf who has 3 Frenchies , 2 English bulldogs , a Terrier ,a Sausage dog and a cat ! (yes Baby Agnes is her name , dont blame me i adopter her with that name but i usually call her Baby Pig Face lol )
