Is it sad that video games are what are keeping me from thinking about ctb?

I don't play much games anymore because my wife hates it when I play video games, but I long for the day when I'm single again and can play and do other hobbies on my own time without someone chastising me for my choices. Still waiting on Cyberpunk 2077 to come out, and I'm thinking of getting No Man's Sky just for therapeutic reasons during the divorce process. It's a good booster to do things you love, I prefer that over having someone conditionally love me.

Not at all, I felt the same at one point. Whatever your reasons are for wanting to live, they're just as valid as anybody else's. Anything that brings you happiness in life is valuable, it doesn't need to be something grandiose in order to have meaning. So long as they're worth it to you, that's all that really matters.

idk if it's sad or not but lots of people say stuff like "this television show / book / movie series / youtube creator really helped me get through a dark time." I get that using video games to cope has more of a "stigma" for lack of better word, but I don't think it's any fundamentally different to someone looking forward to a new season of their favorite show.

I always tell my family this. It's no better than sitting in front of the TV and watching your favorite show, but they shit on video games because it "addictive and poisons the mind". Yet watching the Bachelorette doesn't give them unrealistic romantic scenarios...? People binge watch TV shows and Netflix, and are hypocritical towards video games. At least with games I'm always interacting and stimulating my mind. Whether it's strategy or bullet-hell action, I feel good doing this for a few hours, then I'm back to doing whatever I was doing in life.

Videogames and learning japanese are what's keeping me alive right now and I feel no shame about it.

For "normal" people, happiness is to have a good job, kids, etc (which is SADNESS for me)

Anyway, keep on playing and enjoying videogames. Even if you become a NEET like me, who cares? We do what we can.

I always find videogames work like a mild antideprsessant, they certainly distract you from ctb.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to introduce videogames in retirement homes, I think it would a good distraction for the elderly from daily monotony and loneliness.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one... I have tried a lot of different, more "noble" hobbies because my family really didn't want me to play video games. But nothing clicks the way video games click to me. I really feared that I would became a NEET but here I am. Probably I'll have to cbt at some given point because I still live with my parents and I don't have any motivation to work, or any worthwhile education to get a decent job. I find this life disgusting.

It's not sad that video games stop your negative thoughts. It's what one would have expected becasue it is distraction, just like reading books, doing sports or whatever. Video games make me feel better, too for a certain time span.
Usually I feel worst during holidays when I got nothing to do. Then there is plenty of time for bad thoughts. That's why I kinda like being busy with university.

Sad? Maybe. But not any more sad than if you were using any other form of entertainment like books, movies, or television. Also some games are at least good at giving certain skills. Maybe not always ones that apply to real life but who cares? Either way it's definitely normal even if it is also sad, which it doesn't have to be.
