Does anyone else here feel no depression, yet still want to ctb? My life is very unfulfilling, and while I'm not depressed about it I am unhappy.

Not sure - for me at least the two things are together. But I also think CTB can be something logical to do when life has no more options and outlook, as kind of a rational solution.

I would be surprised if there were many people in this situation here. Depression, whether or not induced by psychosis or neurosis, is a condition that wears down the mind little by little over years until it's devoid of the most basic will to see tomorrow. If you are not suffering from depression, or if you are not in an inextricable and difficult material situation, how can you consider ending your life? This is a real question, I mean, do you really consider ending your life ? Because if you do, well, maybe you are suffering from depression.

If you think your life is so unfulfilling that you want to kill yourself then maybe you are depressed. Being depressed is not a charicature of a person in a dark room crying all day and night with no friends or anything else.

I wouldn't really call myself depressed, but I do have a personal hell that causes me agonizing pain.

That sounds depressing to me 😞
I think sometimes depression can just slowly sink in and go unrecognised as we get use to and come to think of it as normal because we have become to familiar with it.

I had depression in the past but not anymore really, not in the sense of a "disease". I can enter a sort of depressive state if I think about certain things but I can just as easily exit it if I want to. The things I think about are a constant so such a state can always be entered.

I just really don't like my situation and I don't believe the average person would do super well in it. I don't think it's helpful to label everyone who dislikes their situation and wants out as being depressed, it's confusing the symptom with the cause.

Yep, I was just about to make a post asking the same thing.

My life is unlivable because of an incurable and disabling physical illness (ME/CFS), and I feel intense grief and hopelessness because of it and the knowledge that my only way out of it is death. But although I am going to end my life I don't "want" to die, and I don't have clinical depression; I have what would be called secondary/situational depression which is just a rational reaction to an awful life situation.

It helps to check the DSM-5 criteria for depression to get a perspective.

Depression comes with cognitive distortion, in which emotions warb your reasoning, without you recognizing it.

Example:

Im thinking very logical about anything, but I couldn't accept the possibility that my thoughts where distorted. But then I accepted this, and the acceptance had driven me to the conclusion that even my logic is faulty, which in turn justifies my suicide again.

So the question is, should a depressed suicidal person get treated or not, if this cognitive distortion is present?
