I'm on a sort of journey to try and fix my immunity issues by fixing my gut. Part of that means eating better and abstaining from certain types of food. Some of that means correct supplementation. As I'm sure a lot of you have seen, @Sensei posted an introductory supplementation/herbs resource that he's organized to target mental health issues, so if y'all haven't seen it, check it out. It may be a better alternative for many here who are sensitive to psych meds and don't want side effects. (Disclaimer: I'm not a health professional, do your own research, etc. etc.)

As of today, I've begun a new regime that includes:
- Pro-biotic - beneficial gut bacteria
- Digestive enzymes (papain, bromelain, amylase) - nutrient absorption
- Colostrum powder (bovine, organic) - immunity, repair intestinal lining
- Collagen powder - amino acids, repairing intestinal lining
- L-glutamine - tightens junction proteins in intestinal lining
- Fulvic acid tincture (minerals) - to help absorb probiotics (pre-biotics), trace minerals
- multivitamin
- Iodine tincture - thyroid issues
- A, D, K, B complex, and so on

The top five on here are purely for gut health/immunity issues. I'd be very interested to see what other people here are taking and for what issues they're trying to target?

Iodine tincture is effective at killing bacteria, more so that povidone iodine. I believe a study showed less infections after a surgery when using it instead. I would put a couple droplets into a saline mixture for when I had a wisdom tooth pulled to help with avoiding infections, until I could brush my teeth again. What benefits are you going for?

I have a sluggish thyroid/metabolism so I'm taking a few drops to deal with this.

I have used supplements heavily. I had some kind of thyroid issue that got worse with thyroid meds. I have heard the same from others. It made me more exhausted and my appetite got out of control. I have heard you need to take the bioidentical thyroid hormones. Thyroid supplements worked for me but my thyroid levels were only slightly low and I had chronic low body temp..really low. I used supplements that had actual thyroid gland in it. My temperature is almost normal now.

I had so many symptoms and was trying to work full time and I was so overwhelmed that I decided to focus on detoxing and nutrition. I did that for years. That improved many of my symptoms including it triggered an emotional detox so I was able to work through at least some of my emotional trauma. Things that are ongoing like continued abuse from family are still a trigger for me.

The most effective things I have done for my health are probiotics, colon cleansing, gallbladder and liver cleansing, parasite cleansing and IV chelation therapy. As far as gut healing goes, I tried so many supplements for that….tons of bone broth and probiotics which seemed helpful but the most effective thing I have done is water fasting. If you do at least a 48 hour fast it triggers stem cell activation in the gut. I had so much gut damage that I was allergic to everything even organic veggies. I would get extreme fatigue every time I ate. I would wake up from a 12 hour sleep, eat and then go back to bed for 24 hours. That escalated into not being able to hold down any food.

I did two two day fasts and it improved my symptoms a little each time temporarily. I need to do a longer fast for lasting healing though. It is really hard to fast as I was living with my mom who eats junk all the time. I have heard that GMO foods kill your good gut flora. Not sure how true that is but I like to eat organic anyway because I knew I had a toxicity issue. I put off water fasting for a really long time because I thought it would be impossible for me to do because of my extreme fatigue. I ended up sleeping through the entire first day of my first fast. Day two was not as bad. And I felt good at the start of day three before breaking my fast. The second fast I did was easy.

One of the best supplements I have used for mood is BriteSide by Solaray. I think the velvet bean is the key as it is a natural plant source of dopamine.

It honestly sounds like we have a lot of the same health techniques/experiences in common. I have dabbled in many of these same cleanses and I struggle in particular with some overgrown infections. I use a Rife machine to control many symptoms/infections, but only temporarily. My goal currently is to get my gut functioning better in order to take medications I need to clear out other rather serious infections down the road.

Thanks for the advice about fasting. I have contemplated it but also I sadly live with someone who eats pretty badly and it's very hard to resist for long periods of time. I have had to set some pretty firm boundaries but due to the toxic nature of our relationship, I'm not sure how long that will last. Did you take electrolytes when you fasted?

Interesting. Never heard of velvet bean, though I know Solaray is a great brand. I used to take L-tryptophan for chronic depression and theanine for anxiety because I didn't want to go back to using psych meds and had a LOT of success with that. Almost zero side effects and kept me from dipping into severe depression. I wish more people on the forum knew about these options.

I think BriteSide has tryptophan and/or theanine in it. I can't remember the other ingredients. The velvet bean stuck out to me because it was different. Most mood supplements don't include it.

I didn't take electrolytes. I just drank filtered water all day. You could probably add sea salt to your water if you feel you need electrolytes. I would be careful to not consume anything that might possibly cause inflammation in the gut. So I would stop all supplements just to be safe. If you are on meds I'm not sure what advice to give. If you feel it would be unsafe for you to fast I would consult with a naturopathic doctor on how to do it safely.

I had really bad candida for many years and it didn't get better on a super low carb diet. So I just focused on detoxing and taking antifungals and it is better now. I used to feel drunk all the time but I don't drink, never have. I have heard that candida has an affinity for heavy metals so I suspect that is why I got better. I did various heavy metal cleanses. I did a lot of juice fasting as well, I forgot to put that in my list. I was doing better before the pandemic. I had started working out again and had an active job.

Maybe you wanna look into fish oil and royal jelly. Both have some immunomodulatory properties. I didn't see any drastic changes when I took them but maybe they have some effects

Sadly cannot afford a naturopath, although I have always found them way more useful and helpful than traditional doctors. Thanks for the tips.

There is a naturopathic doctor in a telegram group I follow and he says that water fasting will be harder if you have no history of detoxing. So if you can't do water fasting now just focus on detoxing and nutrition.

I'm trying to straighten out my mental health so take several nootropics.

Ltyrosine for general brain functioning
Ashwagandha for depression
Mucuna pruriens for adhd
Rhodiola Rosea for low energy

The ashwaghanda is certainly helping the depression and irritability.

This sounds like a promising regimen. I used to take adaptogens when I was trying to fix my sleep problems. I found out later it was parasites waking me up in the middle of the night. L-tyrosine is good for dopamine. If you need serotonin, you might want to research l-tryptophan. It's the stuff people talk about when they mention turkey, but it's hard to get from food. Of course, I'm not a doctor, disclaimer, blah blah blah, etc. It worked wonders for me.

Mucuna pruriens is velvet bean, also called dopa bean. I wasn't aware it is also good for adhd.

I've been taking a multivitamin for 5 days now. I'm not sure if placebo but I have been waking up with more energy. I felt pretty good today until the noises spun my mind into an anxious knot

I recently discovered I have some serious vitamin D deficiency, so I started taking supplements and I guess there is a slight improvement in my mood? I have also tried rhodiola with magnesium and damiana. I think they have some subtle effect, which isn't simply placebo. However for me the it's still too weak. I don't think nootropics apply to this thread? Nevertheless I can definitely recommend pure caffeine or modafinil as easily accessible and effective nootropics/supplements.

Edit: I forgot to mention two crucial things -> if you take vitamins, you most likely need to keep an eye on your fat intake: you need to have a fair amount of healthy fats in your diet in order for some vitamins to work. I'd also call protein powder a great supplement for an average person, as greater protein intake results in higher energy and if you're deficient (which is true for most people) - it'll reduce the negative symptoms.

Getting your vitamin d levels up will strengthen your immune system. Hopefully next time you catch a cold or flu it will be less severe.

I know this isn't relevant to most people but since people are bumping the thread, thought I'd get in on the action. It's been a week on my supps and I'm seeing promising results with my immunity, particularly with the colostrum.

Sorry for this blanket statement, but I do hear most people are pretty much deficient in vitamin D, so unless you have contraindications, I have to agree that D is usually a pretty good add on to your regimen.
