Hey all, I'm hoping this is the right thread and is permitted to discuss, but I was just wondering if a .38 cal gun would be a decent choice? I'm weighing my options but I've heard larger ones, like .45 cal ones are best... I'm pretty new to guns in general so I hope I'm using the correct terminology. But yea, I want to minimize the risk of bleeding for hours and suffering horrifically and/or turning into a vegetable for the rest of my days as much as possible, should the time come to nope out of this world.

The 9mm Parabellum tends to be more powerful in terms of kinetic energy than the standard .38 Special.

Its not the weapon, but where you aim the weapon, that counts. Massive trauma to the brain will work. I'm ex-army, I never ever thought about shooting myself.

Ah, here's the choir of moral preachers, intent on dispensing universal truths that have no relevance to the question at hand. Instead of providing a response with any substance, they prefer to retreat into a broth of ethical proclamations, as if the world is waiting for their enlightenment. Perhaps, instead of pontificating fervently on abstract principles, it would be wise for all of you to take a step back and reflect on how your paternalistic moralism is a desperate attempt to mask your inability to respond concretely. Unfortunately, when there's nothing of value to say, the only solution seems to be selling smoke with empty words, as if making them sound wise could truly conceal the emptiness of your answers.

I'm sorry you're thinking about this. Sounds painful and could result in brain damage rather than death. Also it's messy and traumatic for survivors. Someone has to clean up, can you imagine that job? With this option, as a question, don't you think you could put it off without any real issues, be it a week, month etc and talk to someone unfiltered on a hotline? (Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org) You lose nothing right? It's your choice, maybe just humour me and call a local hotline if you lose nothing anyway.
Everyone has the right to end their life painlessly because no one chose to be born. There is nothing morally wrong about seeking peace. Whether you live or die, you will cause trauma for others one way or another.

Aim over caliber. If the midbrain is damaged/destroyed survival is highly unlikely.

This being said, don't go using a .177 caliber air rifle.

How exactly should one aim? I'm guessing through the mouth is the best way but I want to make sure I don't aim wrong. I've heard some say point directly up, some say back, some say at an angle... Which is the best way?

Through the mouth, but aiming at about a 45 degree angle. If say you had eyes in the back of your head, aim there. You want to target your brain stem. This is how I've seen it illustrated.

Not sure if I made enough sense of that.

Side of head works too, but I'd probably feel more confident aiming for my brain stem.

Do not aim straight up. The parts of the brain above the roof of the mouth are not critical for survival, so unless you aspirate on blood/bleed out there is a possibility of surviving with permanent disfigurement and/or brain damage.

The midbrain is the ideal target. An intraoral gunshot at a 15-20 degree angle could accomplish this if my estimate is correct.
