According to the president gas is at 1.98 in 3 states despite all evidence pointing that the lowest gas price was in the country in April 2025 was 2.66 with the national average being 3.14. He said eggs were down 87% in Easter, despite eggs actually going up, with the average being around 6.23 late March 2025. Even if he was referring to wholesale eggs, which did experience a massive drop of around 64%, those prices had not even translated in retail markets when he made the claim. He also made the claim recently that mortgages are down, despite the fact that mortgage rates under Biden from 2021-2023 were around 2.65% during covid, and even after covid they sat at around 6%. They are currently around 6.6%, and while they decreased from March, they are still up. He also has been bragging about the stock market having the largest rise, despite the fact that it's still down from when tariffs were originally announced. Total GDP contracted slightly by 0.3%, which was a far cry from the predicted growth of around 2% growth had trump just done nothing. Still there are reasons for this lmao.
Tariffs also haven't even really had an effect on our shelves, since shipping lanes take weeks to get here. Target and Walmart CEOs say that if something doesn't change though, there will be noticeably empty shelves in around 1-2 weeks.
So economically if you are in the U.S. or even outside, you will be noticing some effects. The president promises it will get better within a few months, so if you are holding out hope there is that. Even so, we have yet to actually have any official deals, aside from maybe talks of South Korea having a 0 tariff trade agreement. Now as good as that sounds, if you weren't already aware the U.S. has had a 0 tariff trade agreement since 2012, so it's essentially a useless bragging point.
And it's also important to realize the damage COVID did to the economy. In its peak years around 3.5 million people died a year. That has had massive economic impacts, especially combined with lockdowns etc.
So all we can do right now is let our wallets suffer and hope for the best. Save where you can, try to budget and manage your money.
It sucks, and it's sucks much more knowing it's a self inflicted wound by stupid people in the government. If you or anyone else does want to put faith in the president then by all means do so, but I'm personally choosing to prepare and respond reactively rather than optimistically.
ALL THAT BEING SAID YES NINTENDO IS STILL BEING INCREDIBLY GREEDY LMAO THE SWITCH 2 IS A FUCKING SCAM xD
