• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I don't even work at the moment and it still goes by very quickly. Most of the time I'm broke so I'm just wishing time away until the next whatever payment or until my appeal, trying to spend as little money as possible. I remember when I first moved away from home, everything seemed interesting, even just going to the supermarket. There was so much new information. And then when I lived in different countries. Now every day is really very much the same. I live in a small town too. Every day is the same, the same people, the same needs that have to get met (eating, pooping etc). The only thing that changes is I get physically older and less attractive, and my health gets incrementally worse.
Yes time also goes by quickly like that. Any time when each day feels the same, it goes by fast. Washing and eating feel like such chores, I agree. Is that you in your avatar by the way?

After 18 time is running by really fast for me. I am sure if I don't kill myself, quickly I will notice than I went from 27 to 47 without realizing.

Before 18, time went by much more slower to me. Psychologically speaking, of course.

That must suck for people who enjoy life and their youth. They don't really get to enjoy it that much before time ruins everything.

Yep, beginning of the year feels like just the other, yet were are half way through, watching the days disappear so quickly with no progress just makes this suffering worse.

Yeah, I'm around your age and the majority of postings look like they come from people in that angsty teenager phase, I cringe when saying this given to how it's typically used, but the simple-mindedness of the postings I've read is striking. Granted, people our age are usually popping out babies so it's likely there won't be many forums where others with a slightly more developed mind/persona hangs out exist unfortunately - or anybody with a postsecondary reading/writing level.

It can be tough on here. There are a lot of threads that definitely can make your eyes roll. But everyone here is in pain, no matter how ridiculous the posts. And you're right, not everyone has a more developed mind or post-secondary skills, regardless of age. So either take it or leave it, or seek out those you relate to, but there isn't any need for elitism.

Like I said, most people here are on their 20s, 30s or older than that. You sound like quite the prejudiced person.

Since yesterday I've read someone equate antinatalism with antinihilism (?), read five or so diatribes that were essentially straw man arguments, and confounded others who don't seem to understand the is/ought distinction. Perhaps my vernacular here is slightly more advanced than most, nonetheless most of postings sound like they come from teenagers, with the according intellectual depth.

Which is fine, if you are the sort of person to enjoy banter for the sake of banter, irrespective if one knows what they are talking about -

I think it's just a sign of times and it seems to be the sad truth that people are the most suicidal in their early 20s or so. It has to do with the fact that your early life really defines you and what you are set to do for most of your life. The suicide rates drop after 20s because after that, the life stays pretty much the same for the next 30 years, there aren't big life changes so you can kinda relax and start living in your own bubble...but only if you bet well and did the "right" things if life. Early 20s really is a time for many to check where they are at life right now and if it's really worth it to carry on.

I find r/suicidewatch is much worse but yeah, at 32 I too feel old on here.

I don't believe it's because older folk don't commit suicide as often, as far as I know suicide rates increase with age in a fairly linear manner.

For one, internet forums are still a newer thing and many older folk haven't got much interest in them. Could be that they are just tired of talking about it, whereas younger kids are still in shock at how they are suicidal and are reaching out to connect with others to understand what they're experiencing.

I think it's any phase in life when somebody has the available time/energy to look forward or backward and simply ask why/how/forwhatends/etc., given the inherent contradictions of existence it's not like there aren't many things to look at and as "wtf?" etc. Among the recently retired asking such is quite common as well, personally on one side of the family I've seen this happen, it gave my grandfather terrible anxiety. Though much of the over 50 suicide rate is due to decreasing quality of life issues, some of 'em must end things simply because they came to that stage you alluded to in the above, simply past doing the "right" things with either nothing else to go on or having decided that their best days were thirty years ago etc. etc.

This is what I find personally frustrating about the whole suicide prevention crowd, medicalizing what are essentially moral/ethical questions on the nature of existence, whether it's worth continuing or not, these belong more in the philosophical section than in the medical one.

Don't think so. Prior posting was a little dickish, mainly due to frustration from reading things that are obviously not true, it doesn't take a long time to do a quick google search before posting something that's bullshit, and I've noticed that when I've disagreed with someone they attack me, not the idea(s) I present that either modify what they are saying, or dispute it, which at least for me is how i learn, thinking others might appreciate it etc.

We've all gone through the phase where we see a different perspective as the truth, but as one develops you recognize that there are almost always multiple ways of looking at a situation, and that using only one method is symptomatic of a younger mind or one which hasn't developed at all, so many of the posts have been X: sucks because things aren't equal, everyone should be equal because we all need each other as a truism, then judging the world as bad because hierarchy exists blah blah. That's a fine perspective to have, but typically there are foundational reasons for the existence of certain structures, including hierarchy - and I usually agree with such critiques, respondents not understanding that there's a difference between being against a structure while still understanding why it exists in the first place.

This is entirely incorrect. Most suicides are in middle age or older. Check your facts please.

I'm almost 32, too. September. I used to worry I was too old for many things, I still do for example in matters of career. The last job I got I was doing training with kids all 10 years younger than me and I felt like grandma. Hated it. Another reason why I'm scared out of my mind to go back to work. I've just joined this forum a couple of days ago, but quite honestly did not even worry about how old people here are, because who cares? We're all going through something similar, we all want to end it, and so far everyone has been rather nice and supportive here. You'll find nice people at least willing to read your darkest thoughts and some will even make surprising comments that might change your point of view. Anyway, many have already posted they're way older than you, and I sure hope they don't feel as if they're too old to be sharing their thoughts, because at least for me it's not only interesting from a study point of view, but also comforting to know that no matter if you're 14 or 60, you can find people who think like you do and who are living or have lived similar circumstances to yours. That is pure gold nowadays.

I'm 33. Entering my 30s was brutal for me... I'm guessing it's brutal for a lot of other people as well. It's that point in your life when everything starts going downhill unless you are one of the lucky people out there. I wish I could go back to when I was 21.

Yes. Successful suicides are invariably mostly older folks not teens or young adults.
It makes sense. It is easier to have hopes when you are younger. When age comes, reality hits the hardest. When you realize you are not only old but your dreams, desires yada yada are not going to happen... It is not easy to cope.
