why loose hope so soon? Which situation can't wait? It is a problematic age. But what is it that can't be hope for a solution?

My mind was already made up about life when I was younger. I was done then and I'm sure as hell done now. If only it was emphasized back then about how mental illness will impact your entire life, then yea I wish I died when I was younger. If only I just saw what my future would be.

I recently wrote a letter to a younger version of myself. The hope is that I manage to get my time machine working.

In the letter I ask the younger me to commit suicide.

Because some things, as awful as they may be, are known from the start, and they don't change.

If you experience power outages in your local area tonight, my bad, but I have a letter to deliver.

I dont agree.Too soon is relative. Some things you can barely tolerate a week, and you ask people to wait until 18.
It wont make much of a difference. In fact, there is a very high posibility things will get worse, since as you age there is less endurance and strength to keep fighting.Plus if you are left behind trying to catch up,it will make you more bitter and jaded.
My point is you have no way to know if things will get better. The phrase it gets better is a lie.A blatant lie in fact.

I don't agree for depression. Because it is a conflict age.

I think part of the issue is the gray area in which this whole discussion takes place.

Being depressed is brutal, no matter the age. And we mature at different rates due to experiences and environments.

I wouldn't encourage anyone to ctb at any age, but...

I tried to kill myself 4 times as a teenager. I am 54 now, and I still wish I had succeeded.

I am very angry at my younger self for not killing herself. It would have saved me a very painful, lonely wasted life.

In my opinion you don't choose when you loose hope, you are right I could hold out until im 18 but what good will it do if I've been feeling unhappy ever since I was 5 or 6? I became suicidal at 10. As a person that is under 18 I think I've done enough waiting. It might be a problematic age but I agree with what @Apollo D. Ryker said about depression being brutal at any given age. And before you say "depression isn't enough" for me at least, it isn't the only reason.

If I succeed with CTB at a young age everything else would be more reasonable for everyone else. It's not like I've amounted to anything good after staying longer than 10 years.

My first nearly successful CTB was at 16. I regret staying in this earth for longer than that.

Of course it is.I just wanted to bring attention to a common phrase that is taken for granted by the public at large.
Its a low effort phrase that should not be taken seriously. Some times things will improve, some times not.

Looking back on my life, one of my biggest regrets is not ctb at 18 or preferably earlier. I kept listening to people say things would get better. People who knew nothing of my life but were making judgments based on their hopes, values, and worldviews. All this time wasted on hope and pain.

That's just a matter of opinion. Some people have been suicidal since childhood. What is magically gonna change when they turn 18?

It's an absurd concept altogether, the meme of things getting better. Doing things changes things, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

I think suicide should be a choice of an individual and an individual alone. Putting these external limits and gate keeping is just stupid.

Thank you! And while what's "better" is open to interpretation, the way our (ageist) culture works alone argues more for your perspective than its complement.

I know, I'm just saying that it's a broad statement. I don't want a 12 year old with no existing other existing problems who just broke up with her boyfriend to hear the words "it won't get better"
It must be stressed that for SOME it won't. He used it in a way I felt was a bit broadening

And before you say "depression isn't enough" for me at least, it isn't the only reason.

This, I think, is an unsurpassedly crucial issue. "Enough." No one asks to be born. No one asks to be tossed into the meat grinder that's modern life. The competition; the judgment; the crushing rat race; the terror of chronic loneliness; the slow, increasingly isolating, hellish slide through the decades of old age... And sooooooooooo many parents have no business becoming parents. They lack the physical, emotional, financial, time, intellectual... resources to equip children with what they need. But, hey, free will and it'll-all-work-out-'cause-it's-what-we've-done-throughout-human-history and all that.

So no one, once they've evaluated this place, should be forced to keep suffering, especially by those who either cannot or choose not to end the suffering. Instead, if we want people to stay, we should collectively work to make our cultures the sorts of places people want to stick around to be in. But no, while we tell people, "you're not competent to make a judgement about your own life," we actively resist enacting policies that would make life a lot less brutal. That and we make each other's lives less tolerable.

Unless we're willing to bring back slavery, none of us should be entitled to tell any others of us we must stay alive. We don't belong to others.

Lol, I read this same crap when I signed up for ASH and ASM (Alt Suicide Holiday/Methods) over ten years ago when I was 11 or 12. It's kind of amazing how little these places change. I've only gotten more suicidal as I've gotten older, and wish I ctb when I was younger. Who made you king of other's life decisions? This site doesn't allow those under 18 to sign up anymore anyway. Those who ignore it aren't going to have their minds changed by your post.

You know I agree with what you're saying. Also, the fact that the freedom of people under 18 is extremely limited. They can't do many things; thus can't experience. So, when they do have more freedom, they can start to venture, and life MIGHT change for them.
They should give a chance.

I do agree with OP. I also understand those under 18 who feel like they've had enough of life, I felt that way before turning 18 myself.

The circumstances of life do change a lot with age, the problem is that it doesn't necessarily change for the better. For me, some things have gotten better, but others have become significantly worse. Still, I don't regret not ctb when I was younger, even though there has been a lot of suffering. Because in between the suffering, there have been some great moments too. Like going to Denver or Amsterdam and being able to buy cannabis legally, being in love and be loved back, having sex with someone you love or finding a book or a song so great it drags you out of your misery even just for a short time.

This turned into a stoned rambling, but my point is that if you are under 18 and want to ctb, try to exhaust what options you have first. Therapy, talking to a friend or family member, medication, or even try to just wait it out. Things are extra bleak in that age, at least it was for me.
If it feels like you truly have no options but to ctb, I respect and understand your choice, even though it pains me.

Yes, but now you really know that things won't change. Like me with 43.
I'm sorry but I can't stand so young people decided to ctb if we are talking for depression. When I was young the only method to harm myself was not eating for 2 days or so. At last I was giving up. If I knew these methods probably I would have use them.
I know I must respect everyone's will. As I would like other people here to respect my will. But I feel I'm doing something wrong. Of course I have a limit and I will respect, but at least I will ask why and find out if they exhausted other options if they didn't try like going to psychologist, anti-depressants, or even try to go out from home if you are being abused.
