When I have to start thinking about which things I'm allowed to say and which things I'm not...that's where all the freedom of speech is gone for me.
As a person who suffers from a severe clinical depression (on and off for the last 10 years), this was the only place where I thought people understood that for some, suicide is an only way to find peace, to get any relief from constant physical or mental pain. For many the recovery is no longer an option. It's more the question of when to ctb not if. SS was the only place I felt truly understood.
To be able to discuss the methods, was also very freeing. I think it helped many to achieve a peaceful death as opposed to dying violently, (e.g jumping under the train and traumatising the driver...)
On the other hand, there's so much stigma in society regarding death and suicide, it still surprises me that the SS wasn't shut down completely. Although, with more and more restrictions on the way, it will probably just become another reddit or worse, another facebook page.
