So many posts resonate with me. I prefer ppl on this forum over real life humans. But phone typing is so time consuming. I tend to loose the sentiment of my message one letter at a time, then I delete.

Facial expressions, vocals, and physical gestures are necessary to interpret emotion and better communicate, in my opinion.

Anyway, my imagination goes to a teleported group discussions. Or perhaps real time holograms would be neat.

Ok, sci-fi mind journey over.

I also don't like using a phone for things, it's so small it makes typing and reading hard

Try a computer if you have it! I feel way more engaged.

Food for thought: do you think you would feel as connected if we all had to fumble through real-time spoken interaction, without the ability to edit and perfect what it is we want to say? I absolutely agree there is a lot lost outside of in person interaction, but I wonder about this sometimes.

I have lived a feral lifestyle for years. Outdoors, vanlife, in the mountains, away from civilization. Recent financial circumstances led me back into the city, utterly depressed. I'm not accustomed to relying on technology for stimulation. But this is my new life.

I have a laptop but I can't stare at the screen for more than a few minutes at a time. I feel it affects my mood and alters something in my brain. Lol, I know….sounds ridiculous.

I'm a very animated person. I guess I feel more connection to human presence. I truly appreciate this forum, but communication though technology is similar to learning a new language. It's awkward. I'm sure it'll get easier.

Text based makes it easier to keep the original sentence, but less easy to forget, make changes, improve and adjust with time.

Many people are so obsessed with text they keep reading and reinterpreting wanting to find out the "original meaning". Did the author get it right the first time, that it would be still be valid centuries later?

If wisdom is passed down orally, it will be updated to suit current environment every time it is taught. Some conversations are not meant to be kept word by word.

Good point. Oral wisdom contains a raw honesty.

I do understand the advantage of editing and arranging your thoughts. But when my head is spinning with emotions, it's difficult to convey in text.

I tend to be more cautious and reluctant to write things down, as if everything written down is permanent and will forever represent me.

Oral conversation feels more free because there is presumably no record. There is no need to edit the sentences, suppressing those 'i mean, well, you know...'

Exactly. I find myself deleting, editing, second guessing my descriptive delivery.

But when conversing, I don't have time to filter, and i feel less pressured to get it right the first time.
