i remember years ago, over a decade ago, i watched some suicide video of a person jumping from a building,
and i had no empathy for it, i was just like "what an asshole"... meanwhile i was the rude asshole myself.
same thing with robin williams, i was also very judgemental towards him.
well, live and learn, i guess.

May I ask why? Was it because you really valued life or, saw all problems as challenges we needed to overcome? Did you think that under any circumstances, we owe it to others to stay for them?

I developed ideation in childhood and I first got introduced to death aged 3. So- I pretty quickly viewed it as a reasonable option for someone to take. I remember the first suicides I saw represented in TV series- I remember thinking- it's sad but, I don't blame them. Life can be shit. We shouldn't expect people to stay here and suffer.

Were you raised to believe suicide was morally wrong or cowardly? I did end up with family members who held those views. It really didn't take me long to move beyond them though- to form my own opinions. I guess it just depends on what we're around and how life pans out for us though.

I was definitely in the "why can they just not be happy?" camp for most of my life. I was raised Catholic where suicide is considered one of the worst things you can do. My parents also had a very common but warped view of mental health issues. Once I got depression and became suicidal, I got it.

I do feel like a total asshole thinking back to how I was but the important thing is that I have learned how mental health really works and have changed my thinking accordingly.

yes i think so, i think i felt like "oh come on, it can't be that bad" or something like that.
which is kinda odd in a way, because i've had major problems in life since i was 12.
well, 12 is the age i started noticing the problems, but many of them there were all my life, if that makes sense.
it does make sense, but maybe not when you hear it out of context.
