Just thought I'd share this quote from an autobiographical novel from an ex-prostitute, Folle by Nelly Arcan:
"As I watched you I thought, this is how people live, this is what life is all about, and beyond any doubt, I knew that I had to die because I could never live as you lived. I understood that evening that all my life my body had been moving around without my soul, which had never truly come out of the void from which my birth had drawn me."
According to her, at the age of 15 she decided she was going to kill herself at 30. At 36, she hanged herself. I can't help but wonder what kept her going for six years.
