I've been through hell, I had depression, I tried to commit suicide a few times, and after a long time trying to stay alive I've finally got rid of all these negative thoughts.
It all started when I discovered stoicism. It changed my life completely, I feel happy even if I'm not in a relationship anymore and don't have many friends. I found a purpose in life and finally in a long time, I'm taking care of myself and I'm putting my happiness at the top of everything, and I learned that happiness doesn't necessarily come from "love" (like in a relationship), or from money and materialistic things, I used to believe these things, and now I find happiness in myself, even if I'm physically alone, mentally I'm not, and it's the best thing ever.
I started training my body, sleeping good, reading, meditating, eating well, stopped masturbating completely, playing video games (almost)/youtube/social media in general, and it's the best!
I highly recommend studying stoicism, wish you the best!

Happy for ya brother, i also tried this way of life.., i did cold showers, went vegan, working out 4 times a week, no alcohol, only smoked weed before bed. Everything was fine for like 2 years, but when my gf cheated on me 6 months ago, i suddenly stopped with everything, everything i'm doing or not doing simply disgusts me. I was feeling suicidal before and gave it a second try but i'm finished for now.. how would the Immendham say: This is simply a cheese chasing game and i realized that cheesse is not fucking worth it!

Well, there is the mistake. A very important lesson in stoicism is that your happiness shouldn't depend on others at all, because, like in your case unfortunately, they can leave our lives when we least expect it, and if we are attached to that person we end up suffering after such an event. The only source of happiness should be you and your mind. You don't really need a partener to be happy trust me. I was in a relationship for 1 year and a half and i recently ended it after discovering stoicism, because I realised i wasn't truly happy, we had arguments, i was still depressed sometimes, so how did that relationship helped me if I wasn't feeling ok? I wasn't loving myself and my attention was always at her, instead of my happiness.
Try to meditate and think better, good luck brother!

Good lord, ignoring one's sexual needs is bound to end in a psychotic episode. But hey, it's not my problem.

so basically your happiness doesnt depend on anything outside yourself. Whatever happens is great is that the idea? You say "think better" does this mean you control your thoughts, change them into more positive ones?

That's your opinion. And i didn't remember saying to give up sex, i said that being in a relationship it's not really a necessity to be happy.

I'm not saying you can't enjoy other things or things can't bring happiness, or people can't bring happiness. They bring that only if you are at peace with yourself and love yourself. If you are not, then they either bring fake happiness, or happiness that doesn't last very long.
And yes you can control your thoughts, by that i also mean to not act upon your emotions, but by logic.

Exactly... So frustrating people intentionally doing this then "oh sorry, wrong section"
I'm sorry you feel like this, I also posted here because I know some people will read and maybe I'll help someone, even if it's one person, it would be worth it. Hope you have a good day.

You said you stopped masturbating. It's not my business what you do with your body, obviously. However, citing this along with giving up bad habits or acquiring good ones is on a par with giving up food and being proud of it.

Masturbating doesn't bring anything good for anybody, it's just a way to feel a little better for a very short amount of time, and in the long run it could be very harmful to someone's mental health. So I don't think it's the same as giving up food, you have a wrong view of this. You can join "no fap" on reddit maybe it will help you view things a bit different.
