I understand that to get the best help honesty is a must. However, since I am in the process of receiving a new psychiatrist, I didnt feel like being honest with my current one. my reasons are that she invalidates my feelings

Last session she asked if I was feelings depressed/suicidal. I was genuinely feeling strong in both areas so I told her yes. She the responded with "just cause you're stuck at home doesn't mean you need to feel depressed". She also thinks that because I go to college and have a family that I should be happy, ignoring the trauma I've been through with my family int he first place. Talking about this to her has lead to no change and I didnt feel like hearing more invalidation. So I told her I was fine and she took it as such. I deserve better

Oh wow! I can't believe that she said something so insensitive to you. That is not on. You need someone who won't invalidate your feelings like that. She needs retraining.

You deserve better

This is not "invalidation" or "insensitivity" but totally dismissive (do not feel that way) and hence abusive . However that's how these mechanics work .

There are ways to handle psychiatrists . E.g. "You are so right . Well , you are a specialist . Please provide help." (no mocking- state facts)

My experience of psychs is that that they tend to rewrite your narrative to suit their preconceptions so you can be dealt with easier. But then I don't think I've met a good one. Can you get a different psych? Hope so...

I never lie to my quack - sorry , psychiatrist. I just don't tell him anything of interest. He writes his prescription for meds i won't take, I nod then leave.... sucks my employer insists I attend those public health charlatans.

I hope you find a new one!
She sounds horrible!
I had a psychiatrist who told me my problems were all in my head and that my psychosis was imaginary and then I was lying about my trauma!
Ditched her ass in an instant. Decided to go the non medical way with therapy.

I think many psychs just live off of writing prescriptions and often are not really good therapists. I hope you found a better psychiatrist by now.

Would she tell a starving homeless person "You're still alive and breathing! You have no reason to feel depressed!" too? Christ what a terrible so called professional your psychiatrist is.
