Ah, the illusion of choice. We don't really have choices in our lives. We didn't choose to be here and we're not really free to leave, because there are so many systems in place to prevent us from doing so. We feel we have the choice of our path in life, but even that is an illusion. We have to do something that society deems worthwhile, which is often something that does not actually interest us. Many of us are forced into low-paying jobs that serve to fatten the wallets of the super wealthy.
We are happy if we believe we have choice in our life. For example, if we're forced to read a book in school, we are often unhappy about it. But if we choose to read that book ourselves, our perception might be quite different. Or if we buy a new computer because we want to, versus because we have to since ours is broken. The former produces a much happier feeling.
For those of us who become aware of this illusion, life can't bring us much happiness. Ignorance is indeed bliss.
