Discussion how would one dispose of sn that was already mixed?

purely a hypothetical question for now. if someone were to mix sn in water, but then reconsider their attempt, how would one go about safely disposing it? i've seen that you shouldnt leave the sn in water for too long or else it decreases the potency, but i'd imagine it's still not safe to dispose down a drain. has anyone experienced this? what did you do? was it the safest disposal method available?

Well, I think if you stop your attempt it's the easiest to wash it down the drain.

Well, I think if you stop your attempt it's the easiest to wash it down the drain.

my question was hypothetically, if it's been mixed in water and it's in your cup and you're about to drink it but then don't want to anymore. i'm not sure putting this chemical into the drain would be safe for others or the environment, or if the water treatment facility would be able to handle purifying water containing this chemical

The linked post describes how nitrites are disposed in labs. The other option is to deliver it to your toxic waste disposal.

Concerns about the environment are legit but 25g or 50g is also not that much compared to the whole amount of water in the sewer system.

But the best is always the disposal as toxic waste.

The sorts of quantities you're talking about are basically fine.

In solution, the sodium and the nitrite ions will dissociate. The sodium is not a significant issue, there's lots of that in household waste. The nitrite is also something that water treatment facilities are set up to cope with.

You could also put the solution inside a bag and put the bag in the bin.

If you've got a kilogram then don't dump it directly in your nearest river, but it's much better to put down the drain than certain pharmaceuticals.

I would like to order to have SN just in case, but this is giving me second thoughts. It seems difficult to properly dispose it

I had mixed some together planning to make an attempt one night but then had a change of heart. Not knowing what to do and very stressed in the moment, I did just pour it down the sink then let the sink run for a solid 5 minutes to dilute it as much as I could.

Personally, once the nitrites reach the rest of the waste water, I highly doubt that the concentration would be of any concern.

It's not enough to worry about contaminating anything. Put it down any drain or in the toilet.

I tested my SN in water & then wasn't sure how to dispose. I turned the shower on full & poured the SN solution down the drain really slowly, I think stopping a few times too.
