It seems to be said that I should be able to feel a pulse where they are but I can't feel anything . Any tips ?

The carotids run along either side of your neck, rooooughly between the windpipe and the muscle that tenses when you turn your head (sternocleidomastoid, if you want the name). You can usually feel the pulse by pressing gently just beside the larynx, around your mid neck. If you press too hard or in the wrong spot, you might miss it.

Make a U shape with your fingers (thumb, index, the other one i forgot the name of) and wrap it around your throat... Depending on the size of your neck if you feel around for a bit you should be able to feel the pulsing. You can also do it with your entire hand (although its a little harder to pin-point the location this way). Feel the front of your neck specifically, don't look for the pulsing at the side.
