How to know that I’m doing hanging correctly?

Hey guys,
I'm trying to do partial hanging and once I tested it out I noticed it felt like my head started to fill up with blood and my hearing started fading? I was only trying for maybe a couple of seconds but it happened pretty quickly. Wanting to know if I was doing it correctly and if it would've killed me had I kept going. If so, then I finally found out how
