Stuck- the guilt of leaving or the pain of staying

Hi all,

Heads scrambled a little tonight - not able to think as clearly/process things.

I do not currently have the energy to finish the rest of my notes, but have already handwritten 3 of them.

I am wondering what the best way would be to ensure that the people they are intended for actually receive them?

My original plan was to put them in envelopes with the persons name on the front, and leave them with my body after I drink the SN... however I am worried that police may confiscate them as evidence?

I also thought of using a delayed e-mail service... but do not trust them. I tried future.me with a e-mail I had made and it did not send.

Am I just being paranoid about leaving the notes with my body? Or is there a very good chance that the police will confiscate them.

Thanks in advance for the replies. Hopefully this post makes some sense, as I said my head is scrambled tonight and I am feeling very confused, anxious, depressed, sick... the list goes on.

You are in the UK I know, second class letters through Royal mail. I will be cbt on a Friday so will post them and they will get it the following week. What email provider do you use? Gmail? outlook?

I'm pretty sure that notes get seized as evidence until it's been confirmed via post mortem that it's a suicide. Your best bet is second class post but I imagine the police would still end up getting their hands on them at some point.

I have a hotmail account, I only use the Mail app on iPhone... however would use Outlook if that helped?

Sending via Royal Mail post means if I fail, I can't get the notes back. The Royal Mail are also not the most trustworthy in terms of delivering letters/parcels to the correct address/not losing them, as I have experienced before... Are you saying that after confirming that the cause of death is suicide, that the notes would be released to the people they were intended for? I have a note written for emergency them stating that this was an individual act, and what I done (will show as SN poisoning on autopsy anyway)... so surely they wouldn't take long to conclude that my death was a suicide and release the notes.

Sorry I do not understand

I use it as well. have tested the process above and it works

Yet again, a big thanks to you mate. Now I just need to try and find the emails of the people I want to send letters to... some of them I no longer have contact with.

Guess I will leave notes + do the delayed email... just incase, but that sets my mind at ease.

Having dealt with people who have committed suicide in my line of work, if letters have been left, most of the time the police get them. If it's very obviously suicide (hanging, for example), family members can sometimes look at the letter (if they were to be at the hospital with you and asked to see it before it was taken etc) before they're taken away. Unfortunately, just because you leave the SN out, doesn't mean that it's taken as gospel, a lot still has to be done to determine things.

Just go with whatever you feel comfortable with.

Do the family eventually get them or do the police keep them for good?

Family usually get them as soon as the post mortem is confirmed. Just depends on the method, some take a little longer than others. Public holidays etc.

Thanks. I will both leave notes beside me, and send delayed emails.

I am Italian

My brother ctb'd in 2003. He had been recently admitted in a private clinic following a suicide attempt. He died that very week. My parents were actually terrified he would walk in front of the train that took him to that clinic - about 8 of his friends showed up to collect him at the train station and called my parents to reassure them one by one.
My brother left lengthy notes left and right - a whole notebook, in fact. Clinic staff put it all in a big envelope and gave it to my parents and older brother (I wasn't allowed to see "the body" because I was a child.) The writings are still in my parents' home. His girlfriend even had the time to make photocopies.
There was an attempt to start an investigation as my brother died when he was supposed to be watched around the clock, but charges were dropped for reasons that are unclear to me to this day. The notion police seizes handwritten suicide notes is very surprising to me now.
Then again suicide by SN isn't like suicide by hanging (my brother's method). My cousin had a extremely sudden heart attack in his thirties and there was an autopsy which confirmed he had a heart condition he was unaware of.

I am so glad that I had stumbled on this thread because until now, I have naïvely assumed that any notes on my person or "at the scene" would have been left alone. Perhaps the protocol surrounding this varies by region, but this is something that I will certainly look into. I wouldn't want the notes to be withheld indefinitely...perhaps I should create digital duplicates just in case.
