I was in a 4-story building recently that had a circular foyer with a beautiful rock waterfall in the center on the ground floor and each floor up had a wide walkway with metal railings. Those railings were a little over waist high and would have been NOTHING to jump over, even for an old woman like me. The office we were going to was on the top floor. We stepped off the elevator and I walked over to the railing and looked down. I looked for so long that my husband was like what are you doing?? I was gauging my SI and what my chances were of hitting the top edge of the waterfall so as to inflict maximum damage. My SI was CRAZY! I don't think I've ever had that strong of a reaction to thinking about ctb-ing before.

Maybe it was because I didn't have to think of any preparation -- just climb the rail. Maybe it was because I was positive it was probably gonna hurt. A lot. I dunno. But whatever it was I decided right then and there that jumping was not an option for me.

i don't think i've ever had a fear of heights. i actually admired the view in most cases. falling is a different story. that rush of air in your ears kinda sucks. i guess it'd be too late by then.
