Do you die before you fall or when you hit the ground

I heard that people pass out before hitting the ground, I can't know for sure but it makes sense fainting while falling, it's very scary.

I strongly doubt you would pass out...the 9/11 jumpers were alive and kicking all the way down

That's my understanding. People who jumped to escape the flames lived until impact.

No.

"...He jumped out of his open gondola, and began falling. By 90,000 feet, he had reached about 1,149 km/hr - faster than the speed of sound. He fell in free fall for about four-and-a-half minutes. His speed gradually reduced to around 200 km/hr as he dropped though the increasingly-thicker air. His parachute opened around 14,000 feet. There was a sudden jerk as his speed suddenly dropped to around 21 kph. He landed about 12 minutes later, with no permanent injuries. He still holds two records - the only person to break the sound barrier without being in a craft, and the highest parachute jump."

I imagine the scariest part is just before the jump and the anxiety leading to it. Once the jump is done, then the person can close their eyes and know that the end is coming. (assuming they picked a high enough spot)

I'm very afraid of heights so that is not my method of choice.

I've almost went with that method. When it came to actually doing it, it was too terrifying. Even as sure of myself as I was. I think fear of heights is one of humans' most primal fears.

Scary. I'd probably get black out drunk or pop some Xanax before jumping.

Due to the speed, what your eyes see and the moment the signals reach your brain to realize the distance there is a small gap. That's what I understand what it means that you will die before you hit the ground

I think most people don't pass out before hitting the ground otherwise roller coasters would be out of business.

Indeed it's scary, but I am beginning to think about it, I don't know what else to do.

I thought I conquered my fear of heights, I skydived in Cuba Varadero and I thought great then I had a balloon ride across the Masai Mara and it was windy, we were drifting into Tanzania so it kept going higher and higher, 10,000 feet and I had the first and only panic attack and it wasn't nice I thought I was going to die.

I wanted to ctb by jumping of Beachy Head, hence the name Jumper Geo, but then I watched this video and thought, oh yeah I'm still scared of heights, but what a rush that would be.

I don't think you die before you hit the ground, if you did how are their survivors of jumps? Passing out maybe from the breath being ripped from you, but dying first? nope, not happening

If I was jumping, I'd probably jump off a bridge in the dark.

a few years ago, i had access to a 24th story balcony and would have landed on asphalt had i jumped. the scariest part is jumping, not falling. when you're falling, you can't change your mind and that thought eased my worries. i assume getting drunk would kinda flush the anxiety about jumping away too.

it seems odd , not picking jumping because you are scared of heights, surly the fear of heights is the fear of falling to your death ?
