If you mix sodium nitrite in water, say 20g into 60mL, how long will it be effective? Hours? Days?

It looks like it could be quite a while if you don't put it in water and keep it in a sealed container, even if you have opened it already. It should probably be looked into more just to be sure.

You probably shouldn't mix it with water until you're about to drink it if you want it to be at its most potent/lethal.

It would be useful if it is still effective after 3 hours at least.
Just a thought about this for use as backup.
I could prepare 2 mixtures. e.g. one with 20gm and one with 10-15gm. If the first attempt still doesn't do its job after 3 hours and I'm conscious, I could drink the second one. Especially in case I'm too weak or nauseous to move and have the second glass nearby.
I've said this somewhere, but I think it would change to nitrate eventually because of the oxygen content in the water.
