This is a basic question, I've been having it very rough recently, and I want to know what people do to cope with stress, depression, anxiety, etc.

Me personally? I walk to wherever I feel like, especially in the warmer months, sometimes with friends, sometimes alone, sometimes with headphones listening yo music. I also work out. I've tried to develop healthy coping mechanisms, and things to revolve my life around, especially in recent months.

I hit the gym a lot, not to cope but to better myself. How I cope is by trying to put myself in a better situatuion where I will never need to deal with whatever I just went through again. It can be very difficult at times especially when you need to change something drastic in your life and thats when the bad thoughts come in. But it seems that when you make the choices to better yourself it always works out, at least for me in the long run.

I don't want to buy a gym membership, plus I live in a really small town so there's like 2 gyms here and they're always crowded. I choose to workout at home because I tend to work out on an impulse. I think it would be nice for a gym membership for the routine but that's the main benefit beyond more workout variety.

I agree with your points, maybe cope wasn't the right word but it was the first word to come to mind. Bettering yourself is always a better option than some routes like self-destruction.

An unhealthy coping mechanism of mine is self-harm. The healthy one is to simply listen to music while I take a walk in perhaps a park. I don't have many and most of the time I use both of these. But there are many like crushing paper, playing video games to a certain degree etc.

Writing fanfic, going for a walk. But realistically, that only prolongs the pain.

Running. Everything feels less terrifying and horrible when I'm running. The rhythmic movement/sounds and need to focus on my breathing make it almost like meditation.

Videogames, watching youtube videos, this forum. Also got some benzos and non-benzos on hand just in case if I really badly need a full night's sleep. (I have Insomnia-like issues.)

I usually try to distract myself watching films, looking at art or playing videogames. I try to learn new skills too. It doesn't always work though and sometimes I end up in bed, tired, feeling like nothing and surrounded by nothing. I would love to find a better way to cope.

I was exercising regularly but mood tanked and I stopped, have to get back to it. Also do hobbies and tabletop games, music, getting back to my rpg game group. Buy a lot of stuff, which doesn't help in the long run.

I just watch old films and old telly shows, can't listen to music anymore--climb 700 steps most mornings before dawn

I know it's rough to get ahead of the anxiety but physical activity of any kind helps. Walking. Getting outside for some fresh air. Even just light chores tidying up, laundry, organizing rubbish or recycling. Just some movement instead of sitting or laying down.

When i have some energy i walk like 2 hours. ( outside). Cannot run/ jog because of pain since 5 years ago

When i have less energy i just take day by day or hour by hour Or just dissociate( not by choice)
Sometimes i write journal or cook or play games

Idk how to cope either. I just block out everything. And watch internet mindlessly. I just become a digital zombie. Sadly my state lasts long and sometimes i don't even notice months passing by. I also tell myself, let's today try to enjoy, and that i will be killing myself soon.

I don't cope at all. I eat junk food, sleep, and chat, that's all. I just need to die. And I had a very healthy and productive life before it got ruined. Now I don't do anything at all anymore. I can't go out, I can't exercise anymore, I can't do anything, I'm ducked.

In my case, the fact is that if I don't find a way to ctb then I basically have no choice but to continue existing. I hate every waking moment but this is unfortunately just the reality of existing. The only thing that could ever be close to being positive about it all is the fact that this existence will end someday, even temporary sleep doesn't offer much of a relief as long as the chance of waking is always there.

I don't want to individually reply to everyone since that would be basically spamming. It's interesting reading everyone's coping mechanisms, and some peoples are similar to mine. To those of you who cannot cope, I'm sorry you guys can't find any way to cope. There are days where depression has sapped me of all my energy and I feel like a shell and I don't do much those days simply due to lack of motivation to do so, so I can imagine how you guys feel.

I would also say sleep but recently my sleep has been plagued by dreams/nightmares about breakup.

Being present. Depression is from constantly thinking about the past when the only moment we truly have to savor is present. Being present requires intentional/focused thinking, so meditation daily helps to improve focus and improve the state of noticing. By being able to notice your thoughts, judgments, hidden beliefs, the sensations in your body as you feel an emotion, your desires at the moment, etc., you can better respond to them (by acting or thinking intentionally) rather than just ruminating in them and making it worse and letting the thoughts run loose without discipline. I have come to realize that the only culprit of mental illness is a lack of mental discipline. Another tip for being present is literally just blanking your mind. Turn your mind off and just notice the real world and notice everything within it.
