How did the MASH song “Suicide is painless” make it past the censors of that era?

Well, I don't think the lyrics were used outside of the movie, but someone may correct me on that. But the point of the song largely hinged on the last line of the chorus, "...And I can take it or leave it as I please." It's not really encouraging suicide so much as hyperbolic commentary on tHe StReNgTh oF tHe HuMaN sPiRiT or some crap to overcome their circumstances. Basically a glorified coping mechanism. Good song though
