I know a lot of people like the idea of just going for it and not messing around beforehand, but I think for many of us practicing, getting comfortable with the rope, finding the most painless spots, is important.
I read somewhere that every time you cut off your carotids you risk stroke due to clotting and tears, yet loads of people seem to do it over and over until they are prepared to CTB.
