yes. i also did see it with my grandparents. it's just an awful, dehumanising, undignified process.
that's also a reason why i don't like religion cause taking your own life when you feel the decline of yourself is so forbidden based on these old beliefs which are still deeply rooted in society. i also think that this did lead to this "safe lives at all costs" mentality in medicine.
but i guess at least there is now a bit of movement in it.
when i started to read a lot about suicide before i stumbled over this site i also found the blog from martin manley who comitted exactly on his 60th birthday and did document his thought process. i guess it is widely known in this community but maybe you don't know it.
