  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Not really but some might give you resources. Chatting with people here can be just as helpful

I used to volunteer at one like 7ish years ago. Active listening with some additional resources are all they can offer for the most part but it is nice to have space and time to vent and get whatever is bothering you out. It depends who you get to be honest but I hope you find it helpful if you do reach out!

I thought that would probably be the case. I had therapy earlier and that didn't help so I can't see this helping either but it's worth a try.

It's definitely worth a try.

I wouldn't say it helped me, but it didn't make it worse either. I was surprised at how neutral and understanding the people on the other end were regarding suicide. Even if it happened (rarely) that I had to listen to crappy advice (like watching meditation videos or download their app), everyone accepted my decision. Of course, this may depend on the person you talk to and maybe also on the country you live in and it's law. However, before you give up I'd give it a try. Just talking about something can be relieving.

Thank you,I'm in the UK. Going to check their policies of suicide before I call just in case. The last thing I need is for the police to turn up at my house.
I'm hoping it helps even a tiny bit.

I'd hide your phone number just in case. Someone on this forum said that the samaritans broke their confidence and they were sectioned

I have and it got me through the night so is say it did its job. I've heard shout is a pretty good UK line, it's also over text if phonecalls seem too much. Just make sure you are able to text them with your phone provider

I spoke to someone who volunteers with them earlier. They can't see your phone number or any of your details. She said she has been on the phone with people while the CTB and she felt privileged to have made sure they were not alone when they did it.

I've only heard of the one. Apparently the samaritan thought he was hallucinating.

Ah yeah from what I just checked if they don't think you're in control/aware of your situation they can call the police. I don't know how they find you if they don't have your number unless they talked him into giving them his details.

I'm not quite sure about that. I can't speak for the UK, but here I've been told by help line people that they can't see incoming numbers. Nevertheless, I hid the number just in case.

Before I called the hotline and told them about my intentions, I had also read up on the legal circumstances. There was a document saying that in cases where there is immediate danger, they can trace the number through the police, if I remember correctly. But that can be different everywhere. In fact, the document also said that some people reveal their whereabouts before they attempt suicide. The people I talked to, however, said that if I committed suicide, there was nothing they could do.

Oh ok, that's interesting. So it seems to be different everywhere. It's also interesting that they said that. It almost sounds as if they want to take themselves out of responsibility.
