My boss just told me that he wants me to be friendly, develop soft skills, win people over, small talk and all the rest of human to human interactions.

I don't want to be more personable. I don't want this challenge because it tears into my soul and I neither want myself to see my vaccuous internal nature, nor reveal my lackluster failure of my life to others.

It also means having hobbies and interests as talking point. I have few of these and they don't translate to regular people well.

I have a slight pain in my chest, throat and jaw. They'll go away soon enough. This socialation will not.

I'm waiting for the punishment. I know it's on my way.

Soft skills are interpersonal skills. You know, getting along with people, being friendly, and all that stuff.

It's ridiculous how much emphasis is put on social skills in working life today. They are not even needed in many, if not most, jobs. It's almost as if socializing and teamwork have become more important than skills essential for carrying out your tasks. I think many talents are lost due to this.

I have seen many roles that used to be solitary turn into customer based jobs additionally. Why pay two people to do two separate jobs when you can have one person overwork themselves with 2-3 tasks?

I had this same conversation with a boss years ago. I responded by telling her she was expecting me to be a different kind of person than I actually was.

I quit less than a week later.
