My depression is getting bad again. I have a week and a few days until my next psychiatrist appointment. I'm sure nothing will change but at least I can say I tried. But its hard to hold out until then. I might abuse sleeping pills just so I can spend as little time as possible awake. I'm not really sure what to do.
I can relate.
The waiting game with psychiatric care is grueling. I understand that some medications take time to work, but peoples' lives are at risk with severe depression.
I had to advocate for myself with the psychiatrist this week and help steer her decisions on medications because it got so bad. The meds she was having me take were leading to serious suicidal ideation.
Have you looked into OTC supplements to help with depression? I've read some positive things about L-Tyrosine and the dopamine theory of depression.
Many of the common antidepressants target serotonin. If SSRI drugs don't help, there is a possibility that depression is being caused by issues with dopamine and / or norepinephrine.
It's worth a shot. I'm planning to pick up some L-Tyrosine over the weekend.
Copy / Paste from the web:
L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that is used to produce noradrenaline and dopamine; it appears to reduce stress during exposure to acute stressors (which tend to deplete noradrenaline) and may help to prevent stress-induced memory and attention deficits.
