The fact that the person behind the fb group clearly comes on here to take screenshots, means they are probably going to see this thread. I hope she sees the mistake she's made assuming we all encourage each other to ctb but I doubt it.
This occurred to me right away, but then I realized it doesn't even matter. It might even be better if they did. Because it means they will probably begin to distrust each new member they get and maybe stop accepting people into the group. Which basically tanks the whole raising awareness thing.

It's only 9 members. The petition they put on another site didn't go anywhere. They're not getting anywhere with that group either. You would think that they would use their time to help hurting people instead of shutting down a place we support each other in. And can someone tell me why they care so much about something that doesn't effect them. We're grown. We don't need saviors. When we did no one was there for a lot of us. So don't pretend to care now.

Sure, you's can try to stop the forum. We aren't doing anything wrong. This is pro-choice. It provides methods that are less painful to exit with dignity. That's a right to us. Life has been cruel. However, we aren't all about this -- many of us here mention the recovery section. We don't promote self-harm in any way in all fairness to your (the pro-lifer who might be viewing this threads beliefs). Nobody held my hand when I became a member! It was my choice!!
Maybe the fact that we provide methods scares them Do they see the goodbye threads that are being posted? Is that why they're assuming that we advocate pro-suicide? I just viewed a thread on this forum that stated the statistics of suicide. They're high as it already is. Many of us are the one's who have or will contribute to these statistics. We just so happen to be a piece of that percentage.
I'd say having a community who supports me and my feelings -- listens to my deepest and darkest thoughts is a blessing.
I hate how this is continuously grasping the attention of others while all we're doing is minding our own business. This is going to evoke more fear in the community than we've already been experiencing.
Why have you been a bad person? Nothing illegal here, just a bunch of supportive people!
Fuck, I have a shit load mutual friends with one of the girls, like seriously?! Eurgh,

I hope it doesnt gain traction. It makes me upset that they like.. wont just leave us be??? We arent advertising to anyone, if anything its a safe space for people to talk and make their own informed decisions with information they find. The forum isnt forcing anyone to harm themselves or kill themselves. If anything the forum is really like advocating for people to make their own decisions, its a whole fucking recovery section for fucks sake. "Awareness must be spread for this.." I could really roll my eyes at that. If we're doing fine let us be. Dont cause unnecessary attention to us if we're not doing anyone any harm.
And i dont mean to make this long but seeing this upset me. Why shouldnt people have the choice to end their lives if they want to? People create lives all the time, people also do what the hell they want most of the time too. Its my life, my choice right? So i should also be able to end my life if thats what I want. If im tired of going on and im tired of getting my ass kicked by life and I can't put up a fight anymore. I should be able to leave.
this is kind of unrelated but it reminds me of the people who sit outside planned parnthood protesting for nothing. like the people inside arent just inside getting abortions all day or whatever. --I've gone on a tangent. But things like this genuinely upset me.
I haven't read the rest of the thread but the 'leave me alone' part really resonates with me. Everyone near me knows theres nothing that can be done, but still the human instinct overrides logic
Actually they're taking it out of context already by saying "imagine a forum where people get advice on how to HARM THEMSELVES"
Fuck me it's a place to learn about painless exits, not self harm.
Just post Callie's part where she blames society not understanding autism, being ugly to each other, being treated impatiently and being homeless/neglected/etc . As is . No need to troll them . Put a mirror. Shame is on them .
I agree. There's no way I'd join them with my real facebook profile (that i don't use anymore), but I think infiltration would be a good idea. They are doing it to us.
However, I would caution any members that do get in to not overtly confront or argue. Fighting fire with fire will just cause a bigger fire and more publicity and plays into their hands. The responses to new members on here since mid February have been consistently empathic and compassionate and will do more to dissipate any infiltrator's unrealistic attitude than any argument or flamewar ever could. Even better, its the truth.
I haven't changed how i respond out of paranoia or fear; I don't need to. Let them judge as they find, that is argument enough. I believe it must constantly frustrate them to not find evidence of what they purport to be encouragement.
I understand if people are angered by this group, but I think a more subtle approach will pay more dividends as well as having greater integrity. I've thought this for a while and been tempted not to post it so as not to inform possible infiltrator's, however, there is also a value to actually saying this out loud for everyone to hear. Even any infiltrators on fake accounts.
I have observations I will not post as I don't want to fall foul of paranoia or to show my hand on open forum. But my spidersenses are so often tingling these days and once again I am consulting The Art of War.
TL;DR - Cunning and experience will always win over brute force and ignorance.

Interesting. Could backfire. we have noticed the increased members count here and been suspicious. Certainly they will do the same. That will undoubtedly sow dissent but could also shut of any avenue of infiltration. Depends. Do we want to shut them up as they want to shut us up? Or do we want to get our point across in a reasonable manner. Granted, they are unlikely to listen, but its still a question worth asking imo.
But wow, this is like a spy movie
There's no way I'd use my main fb account to join the group and a fake one would be spotted instantly, so I won't be attempting to join.
Or will I? Maybe I'm already there and whispering quiet words into people's ears, who knows?
One thing I've thought: anyone with the intelligence and perception to craft a believable fake persona to hide on ss, is potentially the sort of person that may even modulate their views by witnessing the suffering and compassion that is shared here. Sure, not always, because ignorance and prejudice are strong motivators, but you never know.
When you hit posts this morning, that ask what your hair looks like, or drink suggestions, or the thread about bunnies, or games or locations, it's gonna confuse those trying to claim this is only a pro suicide forum,
people are gonna check it out and see said posts and be like wtf have we just landed in! Suicide by a bunny? Hair used to hang oneself? Actually where is my suicide bunny book.....

Lol yeah, I know. they won't see those posts though, won't read them because its not what they want to see. Funny, if I was on their group I would read all their posts, even the one's I disagreed with. Especially the one's I disagreed with. I want to be challenged in my opinions and I want to have those opinions constantly re-evaluated so I know I'm being true to myself.
Do these people have nothing better to do with their time? I, like many others have stated here and elsewhere on this website, have found incredible relief through these forums. There's recovery support and everything. What else do they want from us? Most of us are at the end of our ropes. I don't have the energy to keep fighting much longer. I know this better than anyone else could because I am the one who has to be me.

FWIW loads of new member requests will alert them and they will refuse. If someone is in there @Jean4 then that's good enough. I'd still suggest cunning over confrontation, but hey:/
Alas, can't get onto facebook these days without a mobile phone to confirm.

This is where admin need to up the settings and make a members only forum, I understand why they haven't but they need to now, Yes I know some may abuse and join to get to that point, but from what I know they can make a members section limited to only those with a set amount of posts, surely say a min of 200 posts would allow us to realise the trolls from the non?
Admin I hvae no idea whom to tag any more, but seriously think about it now??
This is disgusting. This forum has given me a place that doesn't exist in the "real world" being able to directly talk about my suicidal thoughts and have people be like "me too!" Makes me feel so much more normal and I guess it's also a reminder that some people do fail suicide, which for me, has put me off a bit. I also think it's better that this forum helped me discover SN rather than the massive inconvenience of my previous plan of jumping off a bridge.
No matter what happens to this forum, I won't forget the nice people I have interacted with. Thanks guys x

Since the FB group even admits we are pro-choice but calls us a suicide forum anyway, it occurs to me they may think that, by pro-choice, we mean we are for women's reproductive rights. That always gets people up in arms.
