i want to end my life with my dad's handgun. hes a constable who is retired at the moment but i am worried that he could get into trouble if i were to shoot myself with his handgun. would he get a punishment for it? would he spend the rest of his life in a cell? he hides his gun in our bedroom in his closet. in my opinion, atmost, the judge he could face might say that he was hiding his gun somewhere safe and private which could not be known without being informed beforehand. i somehow managed to find it on my own because i had witnessed he had been carrying his handgun with him so i asked myself where he could possibly be hiding his handgun and eventually i found the place where he was hiding the handgun and in fact, as i told before, it is in a safe and private box which is sealed. last thing i would want is causing trouble for my dad. i hope you are having a nice day; thank you. (:

I doubt it. I suppose it depends on the laws of the country you're located in.

The problem really isn't if he'll get into trouble or not, the problem is that he'll feel guilty: he'll feel like an accessory to your suicide. "My daughter/son would still be alive if I had kept my gun hidden somewhere else", "I should've picked a better combination for the lock", thoughts like that will haunt him and make his reaction to your hypothetical death even worse.

I understand the allure of handguns, their effectiveness, but there are other methods you can use that won't make things worse for your dad.

I agree with the above commenter. He probably won't get in any trouble, but you should consider how he'd feel. He's going to feel responsible for your death. The degree to which that affects him will vary but I am almost certain it will affect him. It will haunt him for the rest of his life.

If you are in the US, you could buy a gun on your own. If not, maybe there's another method you could try? I just don't think it's a good idea to saddle your dad with that guilt

I was thinking this too. OP says they don't want to cause any trouble for their dad but this method would be one of the most troubling things you could do. There's a good chance he will already be struggling with your death enough as is without being a direct cause of your suicide. I hope a less directly harmful method to others is considered.
