I'm from England, yet I've had what I think is a almost unhealthy obsession with "Golden Gate Bridge" in San Francisco, from how it was made, the length, the height, the people who built the bridge, how much it cost to build, to the very first person who jumped from the bridge to all the people who've ended their lives or tried to end their lives from the bridge! and I have No idea why! I love to look at photo's of the bridge, and watch all kinds of programs about everything in regards to the bridge! ...I even confuse myself with why I'm all about this bridge! it's like I'm connected to it...Is that strange? as I've never been to America let alone see the bridge in person! Can anyone shed any light on why I feel so deeply? ....Do you have any sort of strange obsessions like I have?

I don't think it's weird at all to be curious about a possible suicide method. I'm always curious about people who have hanged themselves too.

You are curious about people who have hanged themselves because maybe if you were to end you're life, that's the method you'd feel would be you're way out! "Hoping you dont". My curiosity of the bridge could be, because that's the method I'd use, and I'm somehow intrigued that others have competed "committed suicide" I also think I like the idea of a picturesque location, such as the bridge! how our minds work are quite intriguing.

Yes, I've watched it Multiple of time's. It's awful to say it's sad that those chose to end their lives when they did, especially during the making of this movie, but it feels like a comfort blanket for me when I've watched it. And I don't know why? I don't thrive on the death of other's, it's just the location and thought of my own demise that intrigues me. Thank you though.

Do you know I've often wondered about that, reincarnation! my husband told me I'm being foolish when I've mentioned that to him, but you could be right, who knows ?

I think people who don't have our way of thinking just don't get it at all. But it's such a taboo subject, makes it more intruding to me. And the fact I fight MH everyday.

It's not strange. Lots of people are fascinated by landmarks around the world and history behind it. People love the Eiffel Tower, Hollywood, Big Ben, Stonehenge, the pyramids, Times Square, etc.

Have you looked into the Kevin Hines story. He survived and broke almost every bone in his body from attempting. Just something to consider.

About 2% of people survive that jump
It's 240 ft, your falling at 75 mph and it's a 4 second drop
He also landed on his feet and physically said, he changed positions to minimize impact.

I'm not so sure how a suicide barrier is going to stop anyone from jumping. Is it supposed to sling them back towards the bridge. It would be funny if it was like an electric fence because it would defeat the purpose. Still, it's not going to stop someone by climbing down and towards the edge. I've heard a story of someone jumping off a different bridge after being released from a mental health hospital. If there is a will there is a way.

It's a steel net suspended about 12 feet beneath the bridge

I'm obsessed with a bridge I live closely to and my doctors know about it. I've been considering jumping off it for years. Problem is I doubt it's high enough to kill me.

If it was me I probably would not jump less than 400 ft to be on the safe side.

I've also watched it several times. It is a haunting film. It is online free.

Is it still possible to jump off the bridge, or have they completed their anti suicide net along it?

So my psych Dr has upped my medication for my Bipolar and has said my suicide ideation is very high! I told him about my obsessions with bridge's and cliff's, yet he said "they are just ideas, not a definate act you might commit" I truly think he underestimated me and my desires! Yes he increased my Qutiapine and has put me on a intensive therapy course! but that won't stop the urge...
I've been reading a great book called "The Bridge" it's all about the Golden Gate Bridge and suicide! Fascinating book to read..
A suicide net will NOT stop people ending their lifes on that bridge, surely they will crawl to the edge of that net and jump!! or am I being totally ignorant to what a net can do?? I just think if someone wants to kill themselves from that bridge, then they will..Regardless of what net is there.

They haven't completed it, it's done by 2022
Right now it's just a bunch of construction

Well, you'll be injured from the fall to the net. It would take a lot of will power to throw yourself off again already In pain although it's been done. There was a lady who jumped once off the grand canyon, landed on a ledge, dragged herself off the ledge and fell to her death by hoisting herself off it with her arms. Not a lot of people, no matter how suicidal could do that
