• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

Is it something people do?

Thoughts I have at people as I consider it:
  • Don't approve of my CTB? Too bad.
  • Or: this is what I want to do with my life.
  • Or: this is the best possible outcome. Every time you told me to be optimistic and hopeful before, your heart was in the right place, but look at what I have been through and how I feel since.
  • Or: it's a lot of me to ask of anyone who knows someone who's died but I would want to encourage people to celebrate and congratulate (and for my peers to envy when they're older, weaker, sicker, sadder) instead of mourn.
  • Or: remember all the house pets they've had "put to sleep" when they were only pretty sure the costs outweighed the benefits.
  • Or: absolve me of this guilty feeling that is significant, but not as significant as the feeling I have had for decades, that it is time to go.

Idk.

Yes- people do it... Unfortunately, I can't find the video now but, there was a documantary about a lady going though assisted dying who had a large farewell party with her family and friends. No doubt there were tears too but the footage they showed were of people smiling, laughing and hugging. Of course- her suicide was government approved. I expect that makes a difference. But, the hope would be you wouldn't have to go through all the above defensive thoughts or conversations if only we were mature enough to let people leave when they've had enough.

If anybody remembers what this is, I'd love to know.

But ugh. I might be part of the problem, even.

If I'm thinking of the people I know who wouldn't surprise me if they sent me an invite to a going-away party, I would be delighted for them, sad for me, happy for me, but most damningly, I would wonder about how they could do that to their parents. Gross. Shame on me.

It's not like we asked to be here. Of all the times I wish somebody had asked for my consent. I was forced onto this dying planet by congenitally unhappy parents who never considered whether it was in my best interest for me to be here. Gross. Shame on them.
