Hey friends, been a while. Have once again found myself back in the only place I can speak openly, and I thought y'all might have some input for a list I'm trying to make tonight. I'm in a practical mood and I'm a big planner so I thought I'd make a note for myself about what practical things to do before the time comes.

Here's what I have so far (it's very personal and individual of course, some or all may not apply to you... I'm a "leave no trace of myself" kinda person, but you do you!)
- Perma-delete all socials - facebook, insta, reddit etc (also this account!)
- Cancel subscriptions - ChatGPT (i use this as my journal so I would delete all threads), payTv etc
- Wipe devices - phone, laptop, tablets etc
- Destroy any physical journals/notebooks
- Leave usernames and passwords of bank accounts to make it easier for people to sort your financials when it's done?
- Make a will (if you can be bothered going through this process...)
- Leave a note/letter (personally undecided, but included it just in case/optional)

That's... it. I feel like I'm missing things? But maybe it is that simple..
What would you add?

I made a checklist too! For me I wrote to find a way to make sure my belongings can go to the people I care about or those in need, like my clothing or stuff that my friends might want like my Switch or gaming PC. Obviously this is just me personally, but I wanna be useful even after death too, I guess lol

My list is practically the same, but I had to find someone to take my cat after im gone. Its hard leaving the only thing that truly loved me behind, but its better in the end ā¤ļø

If you have any form of finances, adding beneficiaries to accounts. Particularly things like any pensions (in the UK anyway people are auto-enrolled now). Not 'essential' I guess as otherwise it just gets swept into your 'estate' and get sorted by next of kin, but if you want some money to go to a particular person or charity or whatever thats not your legal next of kin.

Is it bad that I'm down to just leave everything behind and open because then people would get why I did it? and might understand my pain?

I'm similarly increasingly thinking of leaving access to here discoverable (rather than hiding/randomising the login) because my posts and profile have become more of a complete journal and better for trying to articulate my jumble than anything I have got close to achieving IRL, on paper, in therapy, in person. But also aware it could backfire given the typical reactions to this site from those left behind.

Destroying my notebooks wouldn't be the worst idea. I might do that later if I can find all of them.

Hi! I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I'm worried about my privacy and I also don't want my personal details to be passed on to any of my relatives later on. I'm troubled by an old question and I'd like to know (if you don't mind sharing your thoughts) whether you've felt the same way as me. I've made attempts in the past, so I'm afraid I won't be able to die next time (I'm trying to avoid all my past mistakes). I've been torn between wanting to delete everything personal and, at the same time, wanting to keep it (correspondence, accounts, etc.). I know that it can usually be recovered within a certain time frame, but what if I end up in a prolonged coma... To sum up: aren't you afraid of deleting all your digital data? I fully understand your feelings; I'm sorry if my question is too uncomfortable. I just don't know if other people have faced this and how one might deal with this dilemma.

I'm wondering why it would be important to wipe your devices if nobody has your sign in codes?

I would differentiate the last will you mentioned into two: legal and personal.

Legal: I plan to use AI (like ChatGPT or Gemini) to ensure everything in my holographic will is legal, from the contents down to the format. This is where the more serious possessions—like owned house and lot, cars, etc.—everything that is officially registered will be placed.

Personal: As mentioned by the others, this is where the non-registered possession—like PC, smartphones, clothes, etc.—will be mentioned. Format can be a bit more casual, like a notebook and pen colors that represent your personality, for instance. But make sure to store in a safe place but can be easily found by your loved ones after you ctb.

If your country's laws have loopholes, take advantage of that. Like if the contents of bank accounts you owned are transferred to your parents, say, immediately after your death, then than would be great to avoid making the government richer (tax!!) with no benefit to your loved ones.

That said, I plan to make sure these two wills are PLACED SEPARATELY because authorities might use the personal/informal will and use it to tax my loved ones.

Happy organizing! <3

PS. Kinda sad that this place (sasu) others judge as an "evil place" bec it "encourages" ctb is precisely the only place some people like us see as a sanctuary, where we can speak our minds without being judged. 😭

For anyone serious, make sure beneficiaries are listed on your bank accounts if you have money to leave them and no wills. Go in person and do it. Get copies of the forms and make them easy to access for beneficiaries. If your work offers any sort of payout in the event of your death, follow up on these and see what the "catches" are and make sure a beneficiary is listed and you have a copy of this for them.
