I checked myself into the hospital so I could outlive my geriatric cat... so he wouldn't have to be alone.

They kept me longer than I had anticipated. I was supposed to leave tomorrow morning.

My cat crashed today. We had no choice but to euthanize. I couldn't be there.

Fuck all of this.

From someone who also couldn't be there for their cat's passing - I am so, so sorry. It might be tempting to blame yourself (or not, everyone's different), but it really isn't your fault. You had no way of knowing. And the fact that you care so much about being there tells me that you treated him with the love and care he deserved. Not all cats are so lucky.

He had a good life and at least one person who loved him dearly. Be kind to yourself - he'd want that.
