Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

I found a thread from 2012 on an outdoor survival forum. The people on the thread were talking about how sodium nitrite was going to be banned because "it got big on the news as a 'suicide cocktail' you can buy on Amazon." The OP of the thread instructed everyone to stock up since it was one of the better food preservatives for their purposes, and they thought the ban was really dumb. Here are some interesting comments, paraphrased:

"Why are they banning this specific chemical? You can die in lots of ways... banning methods isn't going to stop people from trying to commit suicide. This is dumb."

"Sounds more like a sensationalized 'cause' to make legislators look better."

"I bet legislators are actually just working with the meat industry to get a bigger monopoly on meat preservation and food / taking the power away from the people. 'Preventing suicides' is just a cover up."

"Next they're going to ban dihydrogen monoxide and tide pods."

My personal favorite comment was: "SN is so prevalent in meat preservation it would be impossible to completely ban."

What do you think of this?

I think while the survivalist/prepper (or whatever term they are called) is way of their time, it did sadly get heavily restricted in a lot of places. Then again, also this meat preservative may not be of very high purity (over 95%+) and thus it may not be as potent or reliable (I stand corrected) as the ones that people use to CTB with are near or really high purity to more/less guarantee a successful bus trip.

While I don't think it will be outright banned like N, it will be so heavily restricted that one has to jump through so many hoops just to acquire it and even if it isn't illegal, the mere possession of it does trip some red flags and results in welfare/wellness checks (as seen in the SN fiasco and stuff in spring 2023).

Sadly, I regret not getting on the SN method when it was still relatively easy to do so like in 2019-2021 or so but relied on firearms as my go to method. Given all the hoops and challenges of trying to attain it now (even after 2023), I'm just going to stick with the firearms method. While it does make things messy, I don't have better options in my predicament and I will have to work with my personal circumstances (not everyone is in a position to acquire it) and firearms at least in the US (and in a state with relatively lax gun laws) is much more attainable and less hassle than trying to get SN without setting off red flags or risking unnecessary scrutiny. If I had access to a peaceful, reliable method like N, or whatever means to peacefully and reliably CTB, I would instead choose that, but given that I don't, I chose the firearms for my bus ticket as it's quick and reliable.

Thanks for the response. I've also since switched my method from SN due to difficulties of access and not wanting a welfare check. Originally I was going to try SN, but then switched to CO with charcoals, then firearms, and now I'm settled on jumping (maybe). Just because legislators want to make CtB difficult, it doesn't stop people from wanting to do it and it definitely doesn't stop people from actually doing it.
