Too much hassle and paperwork, too high requirements and the price make it feel like a big cashgrab to me

In the US only few states allow assisted suicide. In those states you must be terminal with six months or less to live.

With my chronic illness I can barely get out of bed even with prescription stimulants. I can barely tie my own shoes much less go through all the rigamarole associated with MAID. I would have to get several concurring opinions from professionals and eventually have to fly to Europe as MAID for chronic non terminal illness doesn't exist in the US. It's a long process and very expensive. I could take matters into my own hands although it will likely be very unpleasant, I can do it whenever I feel like it and don't need anyone's approval. I can donate the money I save to a no kill animal shelter. With travel costs and all the other BS I heard it can be north of $10k.

I'd much rather do it myself than face the bureaucracy, stigma, high requirements and other bullshit related to getting permission to end my life. Not to mention the emotional burden of fighting for this right and knowing a date afterwards, I'm someone who prefers to do things without a plan anyway.

The fact that I have to get the approval of unrelated people in order to have some dignity is enough to make me completely discard this option, even though I will qualify once my condition deteriorates further, which is a inevitable and only a matter of time.

I have constant pain from two chronic illnesses, but wouldn't qualify because my condition is not terminal. The country of Columbia has extended it to cases of suffering, see the story below.

I would have no problem using a procedure like this, but if one is not available, it won't change any decision I've been forced to make. Hell, I'm hoping to stay alive as long as I can, but it hurts so much.

Too crippled to even leave my house, let alone the country. And my state doesn't offer assisted suicide, unfortunately. So now I get to risk botching it at home. Yay!

Because there is none where I am and to travel is too expensive.

Because I would like to have the whole process under my control

Also expensive, wouldn't qualify etc. All in all, I don't see any advantage
