I am curious why others choose to hang. I don't know why myself - but ever since I tried to kill myself by hanging as a teenager, it's been the only method I'd consider. If its your method of choice, - why is it?

This method is simply so accessible and not expensive at all. I tried to hang myself several times before and it's not the most uncomfortable method there is (depends on how you do it, of course).

I also think it's because I found out about this suicide method early on in my teenage hood and therefore got very fixated on it. It's just something I saw a lot in media.

It's cheap, easily accessible, and fairly successful if you anchor to something sturdy. It's also minimally messy and easy to clean up.

I'm going to hang myself in February. For me it's because I'd rather be in short term pain then be unwell and sick. I hate feeling ill I would never do SN, for me it sounds like a terrible way to go. Even pentobarbital may make you feel unwell before you pass out so I don't think I'd ever take that either. I'm too much of a pussy to jump from a height or in front of a trains.

From what I've read hanging does seem to be the most commonly used suicide method, and whenever I hear of someone managing to succeed, I instantly envy them. Hanging has always been the method that I've considered the most frequently for ctb basically due to it being accessible, not in any way because it would be my preferred method. And the fact that so many have succeeded with it shows that it's of course possible to ctb this way, but my fears of attempting it and it somehow going wrong keep me here.

But it does make sense why so many would choose hanging as other methods depend on whether you can obtain certain things or not, or whether you can access somewhere high, I mean of course a peaceful poison type death would be ideal to me but I believe that only those who are very lucky die that way anyway. It's tragic how people are denied more peaceful methods but unfortunately this is simply the world that we exist in.

Hi I am not good with DIY or know much about how to successfully do hanging, if I was to do it though I'd like to do it outside, how would I do this I have no clue, what would you use outside?

I have a convenient spot to do it, a bridge near me.
It also feels like a very reliable method.
I'm going to try to make the fall break my neck, but even if that doesn't happen and the rope doesn't snap (it shouldn't) it'll just turn into full suspension hanging.

Can you do it in woods like on a strong branch? Where can I find methods on how to do hanging correctly, seems hard to find.

Is it fairly easy to do, where can I find detailed description or video of how to do it. I'd just like to have a method ready if need be, I'm close to the edge, very tired of suffering and if something I have going on personally don't work out next year, I want out, quickly.

There are hanging megathreads about both full and partial hanging.
I've got most of my info from reading this forum and suicide guides around the net, such as the ASH methods file.
I still need to figure out the best knots for my particular situation.

I think the method isn't as important as the comfort knowing that there is a way out for a person despite how imperfect the method. I, too, have a rope (paracord) hanging from the support beams in my garage obscured from view. I refer to it as my safety rope.

I think we become fixated on a certain method because we hear about the successes and ignore the failures when we're in a dark place, and we acknowledge the failures and ignore the successes when were in a safer place. I don't know the statistics but I have a feeling there are more successes than there are failures using this method.

If there was a perfect method it would be a hollow point to the brain and an impulsive nature to initiate the act.

Because it's cheap and reliable if it's done correctly. I would prefer SN though if it was less expensive and not as hard to get

It feels right. It's quick. It's efficient. And once you step off, there is no turning back

IT is effective, especially full suspension hanging.

It's a trade-off between short-term pain for almost guaranteed success. And from the videos I have seen, you are only conscious for a few seconds,
