For how long have you been severely suicidal?

Some people kill themselves after a few years of suffering.

Some people ,despite suffering severely never kill themselves and die off old age.

Suicidal since I was 10 but severely suicidal since 3 years after another huge trauma. I'm 43 now. I don't want to be 44.

About 6 years but there have been periods during that time where my suicidal thoughts completely disappear. I was supposed to do it multiple times by now.

Severe is a vague term.

Passive ideation that was so constant that it became an inescapable part of my life? Probably around 4 years old.

Progressing to active ideation, but never getting the guts to do it? Probably from around 12-13. Possibly younger, like 9-10, but I remember it peaking at around 13.

Active ideation culminating in an attempt? Had a sudden attempt during a psychotic break at around 16 or 17, after constant painful passive and active ideation.

Constant active and passive ideation that is actually slowly driving me insane?
20, now back at 21. At 20, I planned to CTB and almost went through with it. That would have been my first/only pre-planned attempt.


So. Whichever on the list counts as "severe," pick that age.

When it first entered my mind as a genuine possibility is I think about 14 years ago now.

When I first had the intent and took any step at all towards it was probably 10 years ago now.

I want to write it out for once just to see how it feels: I am a coward.

intermittently passively suicidal for a few/several years, has been getting much worse the last 1-2 years and turned into active ideation at some point. the past 2-3 months have been excruciatingly difficult, i feel like i'm dragging my own corpse along the ground.
