i've finally finished my decluttering. got all of the bags of donations and trash and recycling out of my room. i've let go of some things that i was hesitant to let go of but i know i never use and never will. my desk top is clean and all of its drawers are either empty or very minimal. my bookshelf is much clearer and even had an empty shelf. for the first time in forever my closet is empty enough that the clothes aren't all crammed together on the rack, i even was able to clear out over 40 hangers i will no longer need. i have a few items i'm holding onto for a couple more months to reassess but i was able to get rid of probably 70-80% of my belongings. i feel amazing. i'm also a VERY forgetful person and lose my keys (which are attached to my wallet) all the time so i'm hoping that will help with that. my mental health just feels so much better knowing i'm not weighed down by all of my previous shopping addiction remnants. this feels wonderful. if you have a bunch of things and have the mental/physical energy to do so i would highly highly recommend and hardcore declutter

Good for you! It can feel good to clean and declutter. I cleaned my apartment for the first time in months last week. I didn't go crazy with the cleaning but I did enough and was happy with the results.

That's amazing! I'm happy for you. Decluttering definitely feels refreshing. I'm not done with mine, but it's helped me a lot so far, for I am very sensitive to my surroundings and having a clean, neat space makes me feel much calmer and less likely to dissociate dangerously.

I'm so happy for you :)!

Cleaning the outside, whether it's a bookshelf or the whole house, can definitely help us to clean the inside.
Cleaning is hard and very time-consuming but soooo worth it in the end. Very happy for ya!

Im so lazy with my house, I don't have patience or motivation to clean it, so I got a house cleaner once a week. She's very good.

I always get an instant urge right after decluttering to want to buy stuff again. It's like hey look I've now freed up space which I can fill again!

Often you think you're "upgrading" an item by buying new, when really you didn't need the old one either.

Such a strange urge, isn't it? I recently moved into a new apartment and I don't have a lot of furniture right now. There's this urge to buy a bunch of new shit, but on the other hand, I'm pretty content with little. But why does that urge keep coming back, where does it come from? I have noticed that when I use weed, the urge goes away, and I am content.

i do have that urge but i have learned how to manage it. it takes pretty frequent reminders to myself but when i find myself window shopping or planning what to buy in my head i remind myself to keep my eyes on the prize. for me the prize is being able to buy the gear for me and my family to go backpacking and to be able to afford sustainable products for my home

Just one of the many "benefits" of being brought up in a consumerist society. We're bombarded with advertisement from the minute we're born, that's bound to wear off on all of us in some way. It's just way too easy to want to buy stuff when you're bored, it feels like you're accomplishing something or doing a productive act for the day.

occasionally for me it helps to window shop online and put everything i would want to buy in my cart and at the end look at the total cost and be like "wow, i definitely do not have that much money to buy all of it and so i will not buy any of it"

Been doing this, this week. I've been leaning towards minimalism for the past decade at least, but my last move was 7 years ago.

Getting ready to move again in a couple of weeks. Definitely feels good to get rid of shit that's been basically just sitting since the last move (among other things). Ugh! -_-

Strangely, I'm still having trouble throwing out all my random electrical/AV/tech power cords/connections, etc. :pfff:

Really looking at hard at those high school yearbooks. Heavy as fuck, dead weight. Feels almost like sacrilege to get rid of those, though.

funny enough the things i had the hardest time getting rid of were stuffed animals (you can never be too old for those in my opinion). i was able to get rid of things from my childhood like i could go buy them back today but stuffed animals people had given me as a birthday gift were so difficult to let go of. no idea why. that and shoes and pants. i had SO many shirts it was easy to let go of them
