What kind of games do you like to play to forget about reality? I'm currently using an old Mac 2008 running on Yosemite so it's difficult for me to find good games to play. What genres do you enjoy the most? I'm curious as to what people in our situation like.

I'm admittedly not much of a gamer, but I do have some games I enjoy.

Though it may be obvious from my username, I adore Okami. I also like Pokemon and Corpse Party, as well as some visual novels.

I mostly like RPGs and shooters like Splinter Cell, Destiny, Fable, Ghost Recon, Battlefield, and Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic. The Turing Test was pretty cool too.

I've enjoyed most of the top rated console games over the past 20 years. Never really got into online gaming, I prefer gaming with friends who are sitting on the couch beside me. I probably complete 3 or so games every year. Last ones I played were RE7, Witcher 3 and the newer Gears of War. I did play Rocket League quite a bit last year but lost interest after reaching a level of play that was way to diehard.

If i'm gaming it's generally a good thing, as I rarely have the energy to do so, kind of like reading.

I play lots of Ark:Survival Evolved. A huge time sink (14+ hours per day) and is bad for your physical health but it is great for escaping life.

I've started playing the new Westworld game for the phone, and I was pretty hooked, but it's starting to bore me, like it often happens to me. I'll be mega hooked and then I don't know why I just lose interest.

I'm playing now a very strange game "I wanna be the justice guy". It is supposed to be a tribute to the 90s games but it's made by korean people and this changes everything. You know how they enjoy adding very hard or weird stuff, at the middle of the game everything changes radically in difficulty and ambientation, from industrial to mystic and fire weapons to swords and spells.

For some reason a video of it appeared in my feed and I hadn't any better idea than auto-challenge myself to see if I could complete it. "Myself: dude, you haven't guts enough for beating this thing" - "myself too: no guts??? You'll see".

So here I am. Playing a korean abomination only because I wanted challenges. I thought I learnt the lesson when I beat Nioh and I wouldn't touch an asian game in my life. But nope. I must like suffering or something. But it's being entertaining by now. Hope things don't get twisted soon.

I feel like this so much as well. When I was a child and a teenager, I feel I could have played video games as much as I ever could without really ever getting bored or uninterested in them. But nowadays I just feel lucky and happy if something is able to keep my interest for an extended period of time. I also get like super excited at first, to a level that I don't want to go eat or sleep, but then too often it just fades away like that.

And it's so weird because there is nothing wrong with the games, they are better than ever. Maybe part of it could be that when you are so unhappy with life in general, even very pleasurable activities have a harder time of cheering you up to happiness and keeping you there.

I have been noticing this with movies, TV shows and other activities as well a little bit I think.

I chuckled a bit. Yeah, you got me interested in this game and I searched for a speedrun on YouTube. Yuck, it looks like a subverted, bootlegged version of Prince of Persia with some elements from the first games of the Rampage World Tour series. But I think I'll keep watching the longplay, it's hilarious

I know. I literally have nothing better to do with my time. The serious games aren't as enjoyable as before and they don't keep my interest very much time. At least this is funny.

P.S. What a crappy sprites.

I actually have to thank you because you re-ignited my passion for dumb games (I used to check them out whenever I felt bad in my school years and I still do every now and then). It helps keeping me distracted from everyday BS.

Yes, the sprites are awful, plus the levels look short as hell... I remember those mastodontic adventure games where you needed to curse the whole planet to get through the stages, because you'd had to spend literal hours to figure out how to reach the end.

I'm glad to know it.

Yes levels are short, but they inflated the difficulty for compensating it. Speedrunners do everything look easier and shorter than it really is.

Anyway, this is still weird.

Yep. Speedrunners are the metaphor of society, "fake it until you make it".

The boss levels look like impending doom from the sky, maybe they've exaggerated the size of the bosses a little bit.
Some developers actually like playing on players.

Favorite game is Zelda: Wind Waker. Cute shit is my favorite shit and Wind Waker is very cute...with all the adventure and formulaic grandeur Zelda is reliable for but the biggest reason is something like heart. All Zelda games have great heart but i'm just really weak for WW's characters, they're all very dear to me and their fates reliably inflict emotion which is nice, as emotion can be quite elusive. Sailing is nice too.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is fav FE because of dat plot. Plots are simple in FE...you fight a straightforward war with the good noble guys, you kill the evil guy, yay. RD fucked with that by having the player play multiple sides in the war and then changing up the ultimate antagonist in a really lovely way imo. Though supports underwent a genocide, dat plot; middle school me was drooling and i still kinda am. Wouldn't say it's the best FE, but it is my fav.

I have some good memories with Ace Combat 5, Resident Evil 4, Dragon Age: Origins, and the Mass Effect games. My first bout with depression actually came when the Mass Effect trilogy ended. I was 12 at the time, and generally felt that there was nothing else to look forward to. It'd be nice if that kind of thing was still my worst concern.

Oh, good one, I've played till moment where you are suppose to do something at graveyard.
You mean Valkynaz, the tomb of The Blades?

Some nerd actually named his band after that in-game location.

Here's a comment that I left on that track, last year, when I was losing my mind for about a week:

"Everything and nothing being essentially the same thing. What is and what was shall always be. No beginning nor end. Everything/nothing in it's purest form wouldn't at all be comprendable to human mind whether in body or soul. The infinite is akin to a void, nothing and everything at the same time, much as described as "the realm of Sithis" in the elder scrolls games. What's worse is that this means ceasing conciousness permanently becomes impossible. Always another beginning, always another transition, endless aquaintances, endless good-byes. No "dreams" can be sustained."

I think he means the graveyard in the Imperial City, showing the map to the Mythic Dawn's hideout.
