just wondering ppl's experience with welfare checks. i guess my lil sis mentioned to her therapist that she's worried abt me, and because the therapist is a mandatory reporter she had to call it in for a welfare check.

what usually happens during these? are they always cops that do them? what do u have to do or say to prove ur alright lol..

cops are hella triggering n i hate interacting with them so i'm most nervous about that part, feel like i can say whatever to avoid hospitalization tho.. i hope ..

I have just experienced this for the first time in my life and it was scary. I have been able to convince the police on 3 occasions that I am fine by just saying I'm sad. I said I was going through a sad stage, but I'm taking care of myself by keeping myself and my apartment clean, eating well and I'm focused on getting my life back on track. I said I was very anxious around police and asked a few times if I was in trouble. I just played completely innocent and was incredibly polite and grateful to them for checking in on me. They stayed for 20 mins, they asked for ID and scanned my apartment but didn't search it as they are not allowed. Just be very polite.

In most places, it's going to be cops that do the welfare check.

I've been handcuffed and hauled off to the psych ward by them a few times during welfare checks.

Of course. I'm sorry you have to go through it too. The irony of a welfare check is that for many of us, it makes our problems and anxiety infinitely worse. I've isolated myself in my apartment and I'm afraid every sound outside is the police coming back. People are well meaning, but I don't think the can comprehend the stress, anxiety and insomnia it causes. The police did also ask me if I had a ''plan'' and I said that I have been very depressed but I don't have the courage to kill myself. Hopefully this weekend it will arrive! Best of luck to you if you are visited
