What if someone failed suicide attempt but he will have neither insurance nor money? They charge him in court?
"If I didn't have insurance, I would be in over $93K in debt"

So I will be saved against my will and I will experience various torments, then probably go to a psychiatric clinic against my will and will receive for it a debt in the size of 93k $? Are they joking or what? I did not requested me to save and nobody asked me - why should I pay someone? This is a fraud

I'm assuming he didn't even want to be saved? Imagine deciding you want to die, overcoming your SI, failing although you obviously did not plan this, being 'saved' without your consent and then given a 90k penalty for it. It's like being jailed although you are innocent, and then tortured because you tried to escape. I have no words neither.
If he wanted to be saved, however, that's a different story.

Well... that sure will make them happy that they survived. Here in Canada, pretty much everything is covered. I know after a hospitalization for a suicide attempt I received a bill for the ambulance but it was only about $65. It feels shitty though surviving an attempt/near-death experience and being billed for it afterwards. It must feel even worse for loved ones when the person dies in hospital and they are sent a bill.

Wow. That is insane. Certainly puts a dollar value on, "Is the risk of attempting suicide worth it?" The sad thing is I would think if a person failed their first attempt and saw this bill, they would only feel more determined to try again. Who can afford a bill like that? This world is full of absurd and cruel things.

This is absolutely appalling and disgusting that the medical industry and society is ok with this. Hell, there are even people (on reddit and across the Internet) who even say that these people should be re-locked up if they get upset over a hospital bill. It makes me want to shove that bill up that person's (who made said comment) and then force him/her to pay for it. It makes me very furious how some people have very little sympathy for people who are very vulnerable, tried to escape the hell, and then get punished in many ways (financially, legally, socially, professionally, etc.) for it. I am certainly not surprised about why people don't open up or seek 'help' if this is what 'help' is. Furthermore, (not encouraging violence or condoning it) it wouldn't surprise me that more people don't try to get back at those who are responsible for putting them in these situations (getting vengeance or taking those responsible for their woes down with them).

After reading the tweets, it may be that the person might be happy to be saved or alive, then again, there is a thing called survivorship bias or being pressured to 'like' being saved even though deep inside he/she may have wished to be dead (we don't know for sure). At any rate, based on the responses, it seems like he/she is doing better and recovering so more power to him/her.

Ive shelled out 40k in hospital bills from suicide attempts. Plus had a felony and 2 misdemeanors on my record as well from it. I lost jobs, insurance, and a car. And after it was all said and done I was told Id have to pay 900 a month for medicine that might not work and need therapy which would cost me 150 a week. Tell me how saving my life, made me wanna live that much more?

That really sucks and I'm sorry that you went through shit. I'd say they can't get blood from a turnip and I guess if you don't have the money then they can't take from what you don't have. Now of course, if you have assets like property and stuff, then it is possible that they will go after that. If possible, I would tell them to fuck off and not pay them (especially if you don't have money). Also, yeah most of society thinks that saving someone then treating them like shit along with saddling them with debt would help them, which is simply not true.

I sometimes wonder if we're not worse than dark middle ages.
Suicide in the past was more commonly accepted, samurais even helped each other out with assisted sepuku. Modern society however sounds like a rigidly organized hell.

N is something people will usually only ever buy once. It's not profitable enough to be worth the risk to manufacturing, or else it would be waaaaaaaay easier to get.

The government should cover expenses like this I mean there are a lot of people who ctb because of financial problems and then after they survive they get a bill like this on top of their problems seriously fuck the system! And as you already said the person trying to ctb didn´t ask to be saved if anyone should get the bill it should be the "hero" because it´s his fault you would even be alive.

Reminds me of a joke:

"There are three type of capitalist:

The 1st capitalist sees you drowning in a river and saves you, then charges you for his services.

The 2nd one offers his help for a fee upfront or will leave you for dead.

The 3rd one threatens to drown you in a river if you don't pay him not to."

Absolutely fucking agree. If the hero decides to play that role, then he/she should bear the burden of paying the enormous bill that the saved person has incurred. It is absolutely disgusting to be helped against one's will, then be held financially responsible for something they didn't even ask for.

this is what "pro life" really comes down to, they want your money. its not about compassion or saving you or helping you in any way, it's about them being able to suckle resources from your teat. they'd send you to hell to burn for eternity if it makes them just $0.01, but if you die they get nothing, so they rather you live so they can send you "treatment" you didn't ask for.

your well being is meaningless and they can give a fuck less of whether you're suffering or not... well actually im leaning towards that they actually WANT you to suffer cause that makes them feel better about themselves. if they can make you suffer and earn money off you at the same time it will be their dream come true.

not just pro life in terms of ctb but also abortion. they just want the woman who don't want the child to suffer, and when the kid gets born he/she becomes a useful slave for society.

My last stay in the psych hospital, I was there 10 days. A fellow patient and I noticed that those without insurance were being discharged more quickly. Usually after the standard 3 days. Having good insurance, we seemed to be held longer. For billing (our opinion based on observation).
My bill was similar in amount to what is posted in this thread. I had insurance though, that since I was admitted during an ER visit, paid 100% after $150 copay.
When I got my EOB from insurance company (Explanation of Benefits), seen my insurance was billed $13,500 for the psychiatrist alone. In 10 days I spent less than an hour with him.
I and my fellow former patient may be way off on this, but while having insurance may pay the bill, seemed to us that it got us an extended stay.
For the record, we were both cooperative and jumped through all the hoops.
