Yea, I tried to join a subreddit for things psychs had said I probably had. All my posts were removed, waiting for 'moderation'. They were never posted. Then other times it looks like it's been posted, but I visit the site with another IP and it's not public--shadow banned. Fuck off Reddit. I don't want to give you my name and address. Let people be anonymous to some degree. Oh, it's harder for your shareholders to make a profit that way? Boo hoo hoo.

I can't post there. Lemmy instances are a cool open-source platform if you want a reddit-style format.

Don't get yourself banned by swearing at the mods over a warning during a benzo withdrawal. Shit ruined my life and there is no alternative. I loved reddit if you isolate yourself to just tv show and sports subs. Getting nuked without other social media is like a horrible breakup and now I'm too tired to go buy weed. This is bad. I'm on the brink of forced hospitalization I gotta put on some lbs and clean myself up for safety. I'm like Kirsten Dunst in melancholia recently. Basically catatonic. Always been depressed entire life. Had no idea it could get this bad.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but for me, Reddit sucked as long as I've known it. It wasn't too bad when I first joined in about 2012, but since then the decline has been rapid. It's nothing but a soulless moneygrab of a website that's obsessed with adds and downloading it's app. It is the KING of asshole website design (unreviewed content anyone?). It has, for lack of a better word, gone "mainstream" and "sold out".

It is VERY easy to get shadowbanned on reddit, either through just linking something the automated system doesn't like (very aggressive anti spam policy) or having the sheer nerve to have a differing opinion that a mod doesn't like. A quick look at the shadowbanned community reveals countless accounts that are suspended.

I found on my former account I got shadowbanned via email, whenever I used that email, I'd get automatically suspended, however I did find that signing up via the Gmail account directly opposed to just the email got around the ban, as did using another email (as long as you get your sellable information eh Reddit?). I have no idea if they ban via IP, I'd imagine they do, but with VPNs and dynamic IPs these days, it'd be easy to circumvent.

Reddit have long been heavy handed on banning suicide topics though, I'm surprised that sub still exists actually.

I apologize if this goes down as thread hi-jacking, but if people want to know the viewpoint of the average redditor in 2024 regarding mental health, this is an absolutely dire snapshot of it. While scrolling the BBC site (I'm forced to pay tax for it so may as well use this) an article caught my eye, "Man found slumped dead at hospital coffee shop".

Turns out a man at a hospital in West Brom, UK died in the cafe, and wasn't noticed for several hours! Despite been slumped on a coffee table! In a hospital! Even a security guard noticed and ignored him for several hours. It seems he had some mental health appointment there, whether this is a case of ending it somehow, or just natural causes occurring, who knows. But what absolutely astounds me is the attitude towards it on an official NHS subreddit I found (r/nhs).

"Perhaps stating the obvious; but doctors and nurses aren't routinely checking on customers using private businesses located in a hospital. If anything this is a failing on the Cafe business itself (conviently not named by the BBC, but it was a Costa) and likely sod all to do with the trust who are merely Landlords in this scenario."

Is there any humane way you could be more dismissive? That is a man who has died on hospital grounds. Costa don't own that land, YOU DO, it is the NHS that leased them it. No one goes to hospitals as a recreational hobby, they go because they are ill. By this ideology, a man could be collapsed on a pavement in on adjacent street facing the hospital, and he'd be ignored as the hospital don't own said road.

And check out this comment here, with a whopping 16 downvotes in comparison to the 26 the above comment got.

"That's truly awful. There are a thousand places I'd see someone asleep and think "They're just having a snooze", but if I go to the coffee shop at work an someone's asleep on a table then I'm gonna check. It's a hospital ffs, the chances of it being a problem are WAY higher here Edit: downvoted heavily for this? Really? Anyone care to explain why you're downvoting if you disagree?".

No one has yet explained why it's downvoted. Probably because "I don't care about someone who's died" kind of makes you sound like an asshole doesn't it? Imagine getting 16 downvotes for caring about a dead person and politely asking for an explanation?

It's insane though. I mean think about it, how many nurses will have passed this man? It is NOT beyond the realms of possibility for a man to collapse in a hospital's vicinity! Imagine if in a school a teacher walked past a child slumped lifeless on a table, and the teacher remarked "well they're in Mrs. Stephenson's class and not mine, so it's not my problem!"

This country isn't going to the dogs. It's already bloody there.

Also: Reddit is a shambles. Or people are trash. Maybe both.

I don't get it. Their mods are always on some power trip trying to ban people. Like, come on, your some unpaid moderator, why do they give a shit?

The mod on THAT subreddit is an absolute fucking cunt. I apologise for my vile language, but that's precisely what she is. I'm not going to discuss the problem or what got me banned from that sub, but I couldn't see my posts anyway. In the past, I've made indirect offensive messages to certain people (people who called me a pervert and threatened me with violence, all because I was against genital mutilation and not just the female variety) via DMs in response to silly nonsensical bans (it's always "they get to decide who posts...even if I haven't broken any rules or actually tried to offend someone? Oh, really?"), I never got into any legal trouble despite being reported. Cops are too busy busting drug dealers and jilted lovers in DV cases they wouldn't have the time to deal with the likes of me. And if they did, well, they'd have a basket case to deal with and the end results would be far from pretty. Just don't deliberately harm infants/kids and you have nothing to worry about. I've set a VERY LOW bar. So low you'd fucking trip over it.

Very true, reddit has gone downhill together with X and every other social media out there, it's like we ran out of things. There is so many bots and people just farming engagement for literally no reason. You can find little nuggets of wisdom and interesting things here and there but it's so rare it's hardly worth it.
