@ashendreams check out these freaks at my lake

slightly less interesting than the forest photos. i stayed closer to home today. i visited a different neighborhood today because mine doesn't have as many trees. this neighborhood is a little ways away, but it has a lot of nature. i saw a hare (very rare), squirrels, and a lot of ducks. in the distance, there were white birds perched on a mass of trees in the middle of the lake. these ducks were very calm compared to the ducks at my lake. maybe my ducks get less human interaction. i thought it was weird how they didn't quack at all. they were mostly relaxing on the grass. they didn't mind me taking photos of them. it was a cool cloudy day compared to the hotter days this week. i also saw 3 turtles at this lake. it was really exciting since i haven't seen so many before. i think they all must be related to each other, because they looked the same. all the people walking around on the trail made me a little anxious, but i didn't need to talk to anyone while i was there. it's usually more secluded on the days i come by.

thank youuuuu!! i pretty much never know what kinds of ducks are in the neighborhood. i really was curious why they weren't quacking, but when i think about all the other times i visited this lake, they didn't quack either.

Its np, I used to have a yard full of them. They were good for eggs, and some had little quirks in their personalities. We even suspected one of the ducks might be a bit racist.

These pictures of ducks remind me of when I had to take pictures of animals during one of my first-year biology courses and then talk about them in reference to evolution. For the ducks I took pictures of, I specifically focus on their mating habits and how male and female ducks are basically stuck in a reproductive evolutionary arms race with each other.

Basically, male ducks often force themselves onto already-taken female ducks in hopes of impregnating them, but the female ducks obviously do not want that to happen. This has led to female ducks evolving more and more complex and convoluted reproductive tracts in order to prevent these ducks from successfully impregnating them and, in response, male ducks have evolved to have larger and more complex penises in order to increase their chances of reproductive success.

I am not completely sure as to whether or not this specifically applied to the duck species I took pictures of (I think it does, but I'm not certain) but I got a good grade on that assignment, so who cares...
